Well, THAT took longer than expected. And unfortunately will not perform as wanted. Not sure if I have found a limitation in DB, but I certainly can't think of any way round it at present. Maybe someone out there can get it working properly. Have to put it in sections as it is huge. Probably the largest ever hello world program ever bothered with lol.

Sorry. I seriously underestimated how big the program was, my bad.

Aborted, sorry. As recompense I have a video of my latest project.

DarkBasicDude, I didn't notice that it is exactly the same sort of thing as you are making and offering here lol. Thought I'd put it up so you can compare it to your game. 2 days in, about 4,5 hours so far, will have to redesign the floor method as I get problems with collision with anything fancy so far. Still not too bad I think Thanks to baxslash, for giving me the missing formula to get this type of link to work.

hmm, bad idea this program is way too long for this lol.
It should work as is. The effect should have gone the whole way through, but if I tried much further, it failed to compile
You can play about with the remstarts to see if you get any further. First one is so it cuts off at a semi decent place Second one is where I managed to get it to work to.
Been banging my head for hours trying to finish it Ah well. I tried my best.

DVader I couldn't get it working at all, what was it supposed to do?

My computer surpasses all the technologies of the day. What computer do I have?

Yes, I apologize again. I tried to put it into several chunks. But it proved too big, I would have had to put up about 15 to 20 posts I think lmao. Couldn't remove the ones I had done so was stuffed At least it isn't my own post and can't be accused of illegal bumping. I was slightly annoyed at myself believe me lol.

@ Madscientist Did you download the text file or just try the code snippet? The code snippet is missing the data rem out gosub playsound and it will work in silent mode. I can post an exe up if it proves too hard for peeps to compile. it is a huge amount of data causing a problem with DB as far as I can see. Not sure if the text file has formated ok, if not it is a huge task to replace the lines, as I know lol, been doing that for hours now trying to get it working.

It just plays a little speech by Neo along with the text, is all by the way. Would have been pretty good if I could have got the whole sample in

Here is a Vid of it how it should work. You miss most the backdrop stuff due to quality but you get the idea.

Edit

I got it to work and that *is* cool! It doesnt seem hello worldy except for the green stuff, but that's probably my lack of hello world detection abilities xD

But the video is interesting; i take it you made that?? Mine is actually similar and different in some ways. It does have a track somewhat similar, but mostly different. The marble in mine goes faster, you can jump etc. I will also have powerups and downs, that will make it easier and harder to get the scores, and you wont be timed. But yours does look cool! xD Im kinda regretting i committed myself to a marble game, because so many games out there are marble based. But i will finish it, and i have some original ideas in mind for when i finish MC, not ones that came from inspirations, lol!

Check out MARBSTICLE COURSE!!! Coming Jan-Feb 2011

Did you get the whole thing working or just the start bit?
I know it's not that hello world anymore, apart from the fact you have never watched the Matrix (shame on you! Of all the films not to watch!) if you have seen the film however, and understand who he is speaking too, the relevance would be clear. At least I think (He's talkin to the computer/matrix and saying hello basically, lmao. The computer/matrix creates the world they inhabit so to speak, so he is saying hello to the world. Albeit with a slightly added , I am going to kick your ass overtone. I thought it a spark of inspiration anyway lol.) You did say you had relaxed the exact hello world bit, so I thought I'd go the whole matrix hog!

Regarding the marble game. Yes I made it. I also think you are wrong about there being too many out there. I started this project for 2 reasons. One, I could see no real good games like it out there, especially on appup. Two, it was something that I thought I could complete in a reasonable time frame and also want to play myself. Which for me is important, as if I don't want to play it, why should anyone else? I can't trust the quality of a game I write but have no real interest in, as it wouldn't be based on true enjoyment, just my preconception of what people would want.
Regarding gameplay, I will have power-ups and bonuses, plus more varied levels than what I have shown here of course. But it is based on how fast you can get through it, if you want to get that elusive top score.
I wouldn't worry about how many other games are out there, just make yours better! Or at least on par
BTW I still wouldn't mind winning the game as I like these sort of things. Don't relegate me because I am writing one too!

Edit - oh the speed is faster in reality, the video capture hogs a lot of the cpu time!

Yes, i did get it running, and it's cool I did say i would realx hello world, and yours has it, so you are doing fine I like it for the fact is has sound, so awesome job!

I will think 'bout it It seems although your entries are simple, i can tell you put a lot of effort into them, so your chances of getting the game are high up there Im not sure what relegating means though... xD

An updates version, where the text wraps around the LED cube

You will need a strong GPU, with my laptop and nVidia 230M GPU, I only get 23 fps.
You can change the numslices=15 variable from 15 to say 10 for faster frame rate.
There is a strange bug where the pattern gets messed up, not sure quite why yet.

For the benefit of everyone (and because I literally have nothing better to do) I tweaked BillR's code snippet to make it more aesthetically pleasing (at least to me). - I haven't changed anything it does just the direction of the camera and some of the visuals. (e.g. replacing cubes with low poly spheres and changing the colouring)

That it certainly did, lol! I got really frustrated at the end with the flashing, and i was happy but rather mad when i realized that i wasnt syncing, lol! I hate it when i have sync on but i forget to sync, mainly when i use 2d. I am use to using it only with 3d

Well, this thread has nothing to do with Marbsticle course and was slowly moving down the DBP board, then you randomly bumped it with something that belongs on your WIP thread. :S

Still, it was like a 20 day late bump - I think everyone had more or less forgotten about this thread.

xD I didn't think anything other than "wrong thread" upon reading about it.

(But of course everyone knows I don't really like people cancelling WIPs or starting new ones without bringing the old thread to PA )

Anybody else have any entries for me??

Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

There are some nice entries here, I like the fireworks one a lot!

Question, when does this competition end? I think I'll write something, but it might take a few weeks. (since I am busy working on other projects.)

The competition i have decided is endless, and has no prize and no winner, just for fun. It would be great if ya wrote one!!!!

I was bored so I threw this together. It's interactive so move the mouse around. It requires the greatest plugin in the known universe... IanM's Matrix 1 Utilities Plugin.

Edit: I didn't realize that C0wbox made a similar one on the first page till just now.
