I've failed to get Dark Basic Pro to work on Windows 7. After the keyword files fail to build, I get the "there was a problem writing the keyboard cache file" box. It tells me to run the program with administrative settings, which doesn't make sense, because I'm the administator.

Every Dark program I've downloaded came with this error.

I downloaded and installed DarkBASIC Professional Version 7.5 but that only made the problem worse.

Anybody have any ideas about what I can do next?

My advice would be to unistall it all; and then have a read thru the Win 7 compatability advice >link<; and then reinstall it all following the advice and information in the link.

Thanks, Prof. Actually, it's working now. I finally found the program icon iteself and discovered that I could right-click it and "run as administrator." That solved the error messages..

Now I'm having another problem, but I don't think anyone here can help me. I loaded Dark Matter and Dark Pro (Classic). With all the trouble I was having, I unloaded and reloaded them a couple of times. Now I can't get rid of them.

The uninstall options (found in the control panel and in the Dark Studio CD) don't work at all. Worse, I can't reload the programs, either. My computer goes through the motions, but nothing happens. Stranger, I can't find the "Dark Matter" program anywhere on my computer. It's as if it exists only as an option to install/uninstall; but of course, as I said, choosing to install or uninstall Dark Matter makes no difference. It's like a phantom program.

I think he is probably referring to the fact windows thinks it is installed still, even though you have removed the files. A Registry clean up may work. (Reg clean, if it works on win 7) would possibly fix it. You could check the registry manually for darkmatter etc and remove them. Or you could attempt a system restore to a point before you started changing things. Just remember windows 7 system restore can revert a lot of things so be careful, you wouldn't want to lose anything you worked on last night for instance, if restoring to 3 days ago. If none of those ideas appeal, try installing them to a different directory instead of the default one. Dark matter should be easy enough to get the models even if the install doesn't work I would imagine.
