hi all,

i am planning a semi-major release very soon,
and worry about non-DB users who might want to try my game,
and they get all the "9.0c / DLL not found errors",
and then they forget about it.

i'd say >80% of people who download something that doesn't work,
don't bother any further, and just delete it.

My Question
is there any file or group of files i can include in my download
that will give most users the necessary stuff to run DBP programs,
without them having to download anything else ?

answers, speculations, past successes/failures ?
please.

side question:
does DB Classic suffer from these compatibility / 'download needed' issues?

Just include the DirectX web installer, or the full DirectX redist and install it as part of your game like every other major publisher does. If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for us.

Yes it does if you don't have DirectX 7 installed. (Which everyone does!)

Almost every game uses directx 9.0c, and most gamers won't have trouble installing it. You could actually have it so that your game is wrapped up in an installer, and have one page say "installing Microsoft DirectX 9.0c." Have the installer wizard install directx in the background, and go to the next page of the installer once it has finished. That's what I usually do.
