weight painting is for rigging. Its used to adjust the infulence of verts relitive to the bones they are assigned to. When you get to that point it will will come in handy creating smooth deformations in problematic areas like shoulders and stuff like that. I would check out the blender.org tutorial section and the blender wiki to get started in blender. work through some of the tutorials and youll get a better feel for blenders work flow.

Is this an actaul screen shot or are the buttons pasted on? I think its a good start though the buttons dont blend well with the background. What might make it cool is to do kind of a blueish transparent button with alpha. Not sure what you use as an image editor but in gimp create an image with specified dimensions and set the fill as alpha. (The image must be saved as .png etc. type format that supports an alpha channel. .bmp, jpeg, and others do not.) Good start!

yup its an actual screenshot. the buttons have to bee rectangular and they cant be transparent. i could make fake transparent buttons, by making them look transparent in the image editor (Photoshop) and then have them here, but because of the way my menu works, they cant be transparent or i will have oddd colours coming through

what are you using to program/create your game with? Transperency would seem like a pretty important feature to leave out...

i do have transparency alot of it actually, only the way my menu works it would be slightly harder to implement, and that would have to bee done in the image editor. You can check my source but hers about how it works.

yeah i understand... i actually do the same thing but usually there templates for things im going to model later.

Its just a shame that the 2d forums dont have any activity whatsoever. I think there might be maybe 3 or 4 posts a week there on a good week.

I HIGHLY recommend Sculptris, its free, and you can paint directly on to your model. Its perfect for making characters.

Making someone's day a little better because of one of my models means a lot to me.

Ac3d is an exellent program for modelling and uv mapping, the interface makes it all too easy and the surface modeling makes it all the better. But it costs $80 but probably still the best value for money.

BTW the spaceships and your sketches look great.
