Stab in the Dark Editor

Edited 01/09/2011 Added Youtube Video of Features

Well necessity is the mother of invention. We needed a truly fully functional DBpro IDE for completion of our current DBPro Projects.
After one months work its definitely a work in progress.

I don't get it.

Aren't there enough fully functional DBP IDEs out there already?

Codesurge 1 is not a fully functional IDE.

For Example

No intellisense
NO coloring for data types,Functions
Windows not resizing for DPI screen size

Stab in the Dark software,

Looks very good for just a months worth of work. Are you using the Scintilla control?

And just because the latest release is at beta doesn't mean that it's not fully functional. (True, there is the DPI issue with one of the controls that I'm using.)

With that aside, good luck with our IDE. It's been very quiet around here in regards to IDE competition.

Regards,

Indicium

It looks nice. I'd like to see how this turns out, I'm not entirely satisfied with the current IDE's available myself.

Just because Doom didn't have parallax mapping and HDR doesn't mean it wasn't fully functional man...

Codesurge is fully functional, it just doesn't have those features.

(Personally I prefer the simplicity.)

Not being fully functional would be like when the copy function doesn't work but everything else does and you expect the copy feature to work because it's got a button or is advertised to do so.

I would consider trying it if it's free. Otherwise I'm fine with the IDE I'm using now (Codesurge 1).

Quote: "Synergy Expired.

TGC IDE is based on Synergy IDE (just added some features). John Y said so himself somewhere on this forum.

I dislike Synergy though. The indenting is a disaster. Sometimes it indents correctly, sometimes it doesn't when I start a code block. When I press backspace it doesn't recognize tabs (it uses 4 spaces), and shift+tab doesn't delete those spaces so I can't use that either.

Cheers!

Balid,
Thank you for your support.
We are using the ScintillaNet DLL.
We attempted to use a RTF Text box but could not solve filckering.
We needed to create our own IDE so we could integrate it into
our Main Project which is a DBPro Game Engine Construction Editor.
Which is not yet ready to be posted as a WIP.

I still use BlueIDE. Works fine.

Stil, one must move forward with the times. I'm watching Indigo very closely, and I'll be keeping an eye on this.

I have all the same issues.

I've thought about making an IDE myself, in fact I did make one in Java. My only goal was to make an editor with syntax highlighting and link to compiler. Real simple and clean, I don't use 90% of the features these IDEs have.

We just hooked up Proper indenting. That has been high on the priority List.
Our goal was to keep it clean and easy to use but not Lacking the important features that will make it easier to code in DBPro.

created icons for Remark and UnRemark
coded Remark and UnRemark for Text editor dlg
coded indent and unindent for Text editor dlg
coded selected text for cut,copy,paste

i.e. i have a messy dba file, i click the "magic" autoident button, and the messy dba file become a clean dba file.

old amos ide, and from the first release, had this option.

i think is the third or fourth time i ask something like this, sorry if i'm a bit botherous.

Don't forget the Ctrl+Y command which redos. This is one feature that was never added into Codesurge.

Looking great so far! I will definitely keep my eye on this thread.

yeah, looking good!

Man, if someone started an open source IDE project before codesurge/indigo/synergy/blueide/this was made, I think we'd have a fully functioning one by now xD

Maybe you should start one though? I shouldn't be talking tho, I couldn't contribute much xD

Thankyou Balid, comming from you that means alot. It was because of your work that we believed we could even attempt the project.

We needed an editor that suited our specific needs. Our other project is a DBPro Game Engine Construction Editor which requires
specific features from the IDE so we can integrate it into the
DBPro Game Engine Construction Editor.

There are a few small design ideas left to finish. We will then release a demo.

@Stab in the dark,

do you know how well this runs on Windows 7 64-bit? I've not had much luck with getting an IDE to work with Windows 7 without some issues (default IDE doesn't like Win7 that much, CodeSurge keeps giving memory access errors and there's not another IDE I know of). I'd be willing to test it out for you if you don't know yet.

Yes CoffeCoder it does run on Windows 7 64-bit. We are Simultaneously developing it on XP and Win 7 64 bit. So far no problems. We will be releasing a demo soon so everyone can test it. Progress was put on hold for 4 days so we could develop our new website it is now ASP.NET 3.5 compliant. Check out the site it has a better slide show of the IDE.

Yay!

I'm very excited for the demo. I'm looking forward to an IDE that actually works on Win 7 without any problems.

Next question; will this be free?

UPDATE: We are hoping to release a Demo soon. We are implementing a few special design ideas and need to make sure they will play nice with existing DBPro projects from other IDEs. It will make it eaiser and faster to write DBPro Projects and keep the Project organized.

Update:We have been busy with debugging, trying to make sure it will work with everybodys coding style. The editor is different from the other editors because it rearranges the code before it sends it to the compiler. For example you will be able to declare your Global Variables at the top of your source files. Here is a list of some of the features.

1.Coloring, Auto complete, and call tips for the Following.
2.Comments
3.Constants
4.Types
5.Global Variables
6.Local Variables
7.Global Arrays
8.Local Arrays
9.Keywords
10.DBPro Commands
11.User Functions
12.User Functions Parameters
13.Strings
14.Allows the Declaring of global Variables in separate Source Files.
15.Allows 3 forward slashes for remark statements above User Functions, remarks will then be visible in call tip for functions.
16.Solution Explorer Displays All Files In Project, Including Source files in Separate Folders.
17.Surround Selected Lines With IF/EndIf, For/Next, Function/EndFunction.
18.Insert KeyState Number With And Without Code line.
19.Code View Displays Info with assigned colors.
20.Renaming of Files in Solution Explorer.
21.Sequential Backup of Project, with or without media, also can backup all other files in Project Directory. Example script files, source file not currently included in the project.
22.AutoComplete has colored Icons to easily distinguish between Keywords.
23.Ability to Create Save and Load Template Projects.
