Hi there all you wonderful people.
Used to have a great time on the forum.
Enjoyed myself beyond description.

Decided to rejoin the ranks today.

Put fpsc9 on vista and it worked.
Added the 117 update and when launched got the message - interface failed to load - level might be too large.

Any ideas?

Yes I do have full privileges as admin.
I did get all those strange advice boxes when I installed saying update may not install correctly on this version of windows.
Then a bit saying 'allow the computer to choose the appropriate settings'
Any help would be appreciated.

Well, Vista tends to dislike you installing ANYTHING that reads/writes data from the C:\ drive on your C:\ drive, especially the program files folder.. It's caused some pretty awkward errors here and there before.

Try downgrading or upgrading your OS. Seriously not beening rude but Vista will cause u alot of headaches beyond FPSC. Almost everything produced on the market has an issue with Vista in one way or another. I think u can download a Eval copy of Win 7 Enterprise. Just reinstall it every 90 days and your good. Just annoying having to reinstall. Or buy a better OS, maybe linux even thats free. An get wine or something. Sorry Im big fan of Microsoft but I hate vista my self. Its the one OS besides ME that makes me want to puke.

You don't need to downgrade the OS. We run Vista Home Basic on our laptop and Vista Home Premium on my wife's computer. FPSC runs perfect on both of them.

When you are installing applications or the updates, you right-click and hold on the file, then select "Run As Administrator". It will install properly. Another tip is not to install into places like Program Files, particularly if you need to copy files to the location. That's one of the reasons we specified a specific location. As a developer for RPG Mod, I have to copy files to my RPG Mod folder and it is a pain to do so if it's installed in the Program Files location. You can copy if you have to, but to the average user, they will be told it can't be done and they get frustrated.

We installed our FPSC in the C:\The Game Creators\FPS Creator folder and have never had one issue. You can always try that.

Did you run it as an administrator? Even if you have administrator rights you still need to do that for some reason.

At the moment, there are some really good deals on upgrades to Windows 7. I have fpsc running fine on 7. In general 7 is LOTS better than vista, which basically is not brilliant. It might be worth upgrading to 7 which will probably cure problems with FPSC and other things too.
Of course it costs...

As Blackfox stated you can run FPSC on Vista, however I personaly don't recomend it. Vista was a rushed to production OS produced by Microsoft, which resulted in the creation of Windows 7. Windows 7 was a direct result of Vista being a "flop" on the market.

Their our several facts and proof to backup my reasons for stating that Vista is a unstabtle release without service packs. Even with service packs, you will find your self fighting with the OS to get it running smoothly. However, if your a software engineer, you can easly tweak Vista in admin tools/services for a much more stable experiance and better funtioning. But that applys to any version of Windows. Vista just seems to be the most prown to issues and failure.

Not saying that you can't run FPSC in Vista, because you can. Its just really annoying with the new UAC addon and addations, which they seemed to work out most of those issues in Windows 7.

FPSC x9 will run on Vista with DX 10,but I'm not quite sure about the new 1.17/8 update.

I'll make some tests in a few days to determine what the cause of the problem is,if any.

But generally it does work, same for Win 7
