All of the sudden I'm getting this error about half the time I compile anything in DBPro. I've updated to the latest, I've pulled up a backup and tried that. Nothing seems to get rid of it.

Sometimes it will compile, but there's an EXE and a PCK file where just the EXE should be. It still runs, but I'm assuming that's not the desired result here.

Any idea how to get rid of this? It's really REALLY annoying after compiling 13,000 lines, only to have to do it again, and sometimes a 3rd time before it gets it right.

I'm running Windows 7 64bit for what it's worth..

Yea I get the same annoying problem sometimes. A lot of times I can fix it by either copying the code over to a new IDE window or closing every IDE that might be open and reopening the project.

This happens for me even on fresh reboot and opening the IDE for the first time, and it's hit and miss..

For me, this problem is caused when Windows tries to update the size/properties pane at the bottom of the project window at the same time as the compiler is trying to write the file.

I solved the problem by closing the project window before compiling.

I mean the folder window which contains the .dbpro file, and the .dba's and the media folder etc.

I see. I don't have that in BlueIDE. So that probably isn't the issue here.

Yes, I get a similar error with Indigo IDE, I have to change the display mode at least once or I get the error, strange.

Do you change that in the project settings? Does it go away after that?

Yep, just change it from fullscreen to windowed, and back again in the project pane at the side, and it works fine afterwards.

erm, no, I meant the Windows folder window with the project in it?



I know it sounds a bit strange, but it genuinely stopped the problem for me.

I've run into issues where it can't compile the project if the exe already exists, but only sometimes.

There's a big thread about this in the Bug Reports section. They speculate that this happens if something is trying to access the PCK or maybe the EXE while DarkBASIC is trying to compile, meaning DarkBASIC can't edit and delete things like it should. So I guess try closing anything that might try to access those (like Explorer windows, as Prof said; antivirus is another likely problem).

I never had this problem with Xp or Vista, so I'm wondering if it isn't the "Explorer" issues I've been having with Windows 7.

Any time I click on a Folder, it takes forever to list the contents, even if I was just in that folder moments ago. It's like indexing is disabled or something.

They are probably right though, it's probably explorer trying to read file details of the PCK file before the compiler is done with it.
