Ok,
I'm mentally tapped out. I've been trying to make a working explosion that uses plains. You can call me a stupid idiot if you like, but after you do please post some code or a link to tutorial that explains how to make a an explosion using plains.Y'know one that looks good...Anyway I'm sorry if I cross posted, but I'm at my wits end. Please,Please,Please, help me - I'd be so grateful.

Thanks

I think it would be better if you used spheres instead of planes. You cant get too realistic with plains.

You just make + texture your sphere, then hide it.
When you want the explosion to occur, show the sphere, then slowly increase the objects size to look like expanding explosion.

just use particles, much easier.

Pah, nobody in there right mind uses the build in particle engine or spheres for explosions!.

Try this, just psuedo code (Don't have DB handy right now) - but it should give you a start, it's just basic gravity, but it's pretty much all I use. You will need some explosion images though, I suggest using animated ones and cycling through them.

Well he's looking for the type of explosion effect that uses plains.

I'm interested though, how often do you see a sphere used as an explosion, or those little particles?

well if you are remaking 80's classic games to learn dbp then you might use particles as explosions quite often. Just a matter of preference I guess.

Thanks for the replies,
Van-B I tried working with your code but I couldn't get anything going, really. You said something about DB but I only have DBPro so if you have some non - psuedo code, then I'd really like to hit you up for it.

Thanks for the Help.

It's cool, I'll take a look at it later tonight and make it into a propper snippet, I have a few variations lying about.

Spheres, quite frankly, look absolutely godawful . There are two realistic options:

-Very well designed single plain rotated towards the camera (Unreal Tournament, rocket launchers used this and looked great)
-Well designed particles handled right (Dosen't look quite as real IMO, but games like Age of Mythology and UT2k3 use it, it looks pretty decent)

--Mouse: Famous (Avatarless) Fighting Furball

A very nice %it, indeed.
