I went ahead and made another model like yours to do a texture. Your texture is fine, so what I did is, I made you a couple of reference pics to do your own. Before you start to make all your bends unwrap to the texture you want. Or you can do projection painting of your texture later. For this model I just unwraped "cylinder from view" to keep your texture in a decent look.
After you make the model the way you want then, bake it. Do one bake for just textures only. this will be your _d texture. Next do an ao bake. This you can use to make your _d2 texture as an overlay. Now you can do a full render texture for your _d2 texture, but you must have it all unwrapped correctly or you will lose detail. That is why I use the ao. The last thing I do is make a normal render.
Now this is just a quick model, but I thought you would like to keep working on it. I hope this helps you out.
