I have alot of games un completed and I thought it might be a good idea to discuss this concept with everyone. So everyone can benifit from the ideas discussed here today.

So as stated I myself have alot of un finished games setting and collecting dust. Why are they un finished? Simple, Im not good enough yet to get them to do what they need to do. So here is a few questions I think we should discuss as a community:

1) Is it ok to not finish games an set them aside?
Why or why not?

My Answer:
I think it would be ok. Sometimes in my eyes it takes time to dev your skills using FPSC and some ideas our just simply not possiable to complete in the begaining. Star wars as an example was a unfinished collection of movies George Lucus could not complete because Technologly was not aviable.

However, with FPSC the tech is here. So whats the draw back for me? Skill to code and write it. Also I depend on model packs because I cant make models for crap. So Im co-dependent on TGC model packs an what they release. Another reason is, each model pack sparks new ideas. Sadly I see alot of zombie stuff and not much more. This is my reason for Why its good. Your thought may differ which is ok. So lets hear your thoughts and discuss the pro's and con's

Making grunge and zombie themed things is the easiest way to make a detailed object, clean objects are more difficult to get a realistic effect. Also the normal character AI is not of as high quality as zombie AI as there is a lot more required to get a complex character AI (just an assumption).

Pros: Good quality, intelligent characters (bond1)
Cons: becoming very generic in fpsc.

Ummm, the best way to get a finished game is to talk less about it and just do it. Mostly folks tend to get ideas for level design around here without designing and testing them out first, they then give up because because its either not possible or beyond their abilities.

I must be spending too much time on facebook lately, because on forums and other websites I go to, I see something I like, I imagine pressing a like button, or even thinking 'Where the hell did that like button go'

Anyway,
As Bootlicker said. It is ok to start projects, and not finish them. There can be good reasons, Family issues, moving, no resources, or even just lost interest.
But it isn't a good idea to have more than one of your own projects going, and not finishing any of them.
I think people do this, because they dont 'plan out' their games.
If you want to make something that will be easier on the development end to manage, and will be successful, you NEED to plan out all of it on paper (or word) before you even start developing it. Character Profiles, Setting, Storyline, What happens, Why it happens, all of that. - Good games come from good preparation.

I have about a hundred WIPs for MMORPG's that I was planning. I don't regret any of them though cause the ideas themselves have come together and I'm able to write out a very good backstory, history, and plotline for an MMORPG that might get some backing now

I also have about 50 different WIPs for FPS Adventure Horror Games that I've set aside in the past few years since I bought FPSC. Regret a few of them, but believe it or not they've help me come up with the plotline for my new Adventure/Survival/Horror Puzzle game that I'll be working on from now on

I don't think there's anything wrong with setting aside a game. I've done it a few times but with each set aside game I've learned some new technique or trick which has helped me in the future.

With FPSC, as it evolves, I find myself going back and reworking ideas.

I have to agree 100%. I my self am learning at a crazy rate right now. Ive had FPSC for a good amount of time but until recently I was never able to produce good results. I think it takes time really to produce good results. Just a learning factor.
