Hi Guys
just showing you one of my latest modeling projects, an FN FAL self loading rifle. As you can see the modeling is fairly simple (my first go at a real weapon) and the texture a little blurry but I think it looks enough like the weapon. I haven't rigged it yet (having some trouble) and I struggle getting things fpsc ready but here's a screenshot of it ingame (not animated)

and here's one in AC3D

Tell me what you think (don't be too harsh as I know it's not great)

hi mate

your model is very boxy & the wrong shape for the fal did you use reference when modeling ?

here are a few tips on modeling guns that i think will help you

1: gather as much reference as you can find (all angles)then place them in your modeling app pasted on planes.

2: build in parts eg butt ,main ,body , barrel etc .you can attach them all later.

3: try using a cylinder to make the butt (just scale it down on the width)

4: the same as above for all parts that are curved .

5: uvw map each part as its finished. this helps keep things simple.then when you attach all your parts together at the end you just need to sort out your final uvs.

6: when all parts are finished attach them together & fix your uvw map.

heres a shot of a high poly fn fal i made earlyer on this year for you to take a look at ,i have also attached some reference photos for you.

hope this helps & if you get stuck just let me know

cheers henry

Thankyou very much for the comments

@ Henry Ham: Thankyou very much for the advice and feedback, I made the model very basic as my UV mapping skill is limited. The model is also quite basic because I'm not to great with creating primitive based complex shapes, I drew a polygon using AC3D, extruded it then triangulated it. I had also based the weapon on a different version of the fal and the COD6 FAL

here's what I used for reference and as a texture resource

and thanks for the reference pics

Thanks

Here's a redo, it can't be a model by me if it doesn't have something wrong with the texture

Here's my first attempt at rigging it, the texture wouldn't show up in milkshape though
