As noted in the subject, all compiled code crashes on my Windows 7 32 bit system. The editor does compile the code, but none will run, including the samples code. I have followed the instructions for installing DBPro and have successfully installed it on my Windows 7 64 bit system. The code compiled on the 32 bit system will run fine on the 64 bit system. All drivers and DX-9 are updated. Here is a sample error message noted in the Windows Viewer Log:

Faulting application name: WaterEffect.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4bd9fcf9
Faulting module name: DBProSetupDebug.dll, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4bfad87c
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00002a56
Faulting process id: 0x1254
Faulting application start time: 0x01cba0560728d5fd
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\The Game Creators\Dark Basic Professional\Projects\WaterEffect\WaterEffect.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Users\JOE'SD~1\AppData\Local\Temp\dbpdata3\DBProSetupDebug.dll

The compiler does seem to use a slightly different process path to complie the code in the 32 bit system as it creates a folder that starts with dbpdata followed by a sequential number. This folder holds several DBPro dlls including the faulting module, DBProSetupDebug.dll. The 64 bit system does not create any additioanl folders and does not save the dlls to the Temp directory. The setup.ini file is identical on both systems. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I've been working withthis for a few days and have uninstalled and cleared the registry of all Dark Basic items and then reinstalled numerous times.

Thanks.

Which ones? Have you used those given on the Windows 7 compatibility thread?

Edit Here: Windows 7 Compatibility

Green Gandolf,

First, thanks for the reply. Yes, I have followed several Windows 7 problem and compatability threads and as noted, I do not have any problems running on the Windows 7 64 bit machine. I installed DBPro identically on each machine and followed the same steps. The executable compiled on the 32 bit machine will run on the 64 bit machine. I just can't get it to run on the 32 bit machine. I have tried different versions of DBPro from 6.6 to 7.5, all with the same result, no DBPro executable will run on the 32 bit machine. I receive the same Windows viewer event error report each time as noted in my first post.

When I try to run a DBPro executable on the 32 bit machine, should it create the specific folder (dbpdata followed by a sequential number) in the Temp folder I noted previously and include several DBPro dlls?

It should run fine. I sometimes compile an exe on my 64bit Vista machine and run it on my 32bit XP laptop.

The only thing I can think of is that one of your machines has a security setting that's preventing the exe from running. I'm not familiar with Windows 7 but on Vista I needed to change a security setting - something to do with Data Execution Prevention (DEP) if I recall correctly. Can't recall off-hand where that setting is - and have no idea where to find the comparable thing on Windows 7 . Perhaps someone else can help?

the DBProSetupDebug.dll error message may mean you need to install directx DX9.0c on your 32 bit system, I refer to this post

Green Gandolf and BillR,

Thanks. I tried adjusting the DEP located by right clicking Computer and then selecting the following: Properties|Advanced System Settings|Advanced|Performance|Data Execution Prevention. I changed the selection to run DEP for all Programs except the Launch.exe and the created watereffect.exe. The result was the same,i.e. the watereffect.exe would not run.

I installed the most recent DX9.0c before installing DBPro. I also tried to update afterwards just to make sure, but I have the most recent available.

I moved the DBProSetupDebug.dll just to see what would happen. Same result, but a slightly different Windows error report within the Event Viewer as follows:

Fault bucket 2233991091, type 1
Event Name: APPCRASH
Response: Not available
Cab Id: 0

Problem signature:
P1: WaterEffect.exe
P2: 1.0.0.0
P3: 4bd9fcf9
P4: StackHash_deb7
P5: 0.0.0.0
P6: 00000000
P7: c0000005
P8: 00000000
P9:
P10:

Attached files:
C:\Users\Joe's Desk\AppData\Local\Temp\WER9E44.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml

These files may be available here:

I do not receive any Windows error messages, the exe will just not run. Any other ideas are most welcome.
