Works well! Smooth and solid. Easy at first, but gets hard. I got 118 points.

If you want to add cool features, I remember a cool tetris clone "tetris pro" on the amiga where you revealed a picture line by line as you completed lines of blocks. Reveal the whole picture and go on to the next level. Also had powerups, level start block configurations that would make it harder, and conditions where you would only progress towards the level goal by getting 2,3,4 lines at a time. ALso for Tetris, music is important!

Interesting ideas... I will look into possible gameplay additions to make it more fun... although I gotta say Tetris is pretty addictive in its standard form also.

I have music planned for the game, but that will probably be one of the last things I add.

EDIT:
Btw... do you think the speed gets to much in the end, or is that just me? I find it very difficult once the speed is up... But I am no tetris expert at any rate.

It's improved. What is the criteria for it speeding up? Number of lines, or score?

Bug? :
When I select "high scores" the screen just goes black. I can press enter again to get back to the main menu, but there aren't any scores.

as stated, it's a good tetris clone. everything seems to be running smoothly and as intended. the music adds to the serenity of a good casual game. i confess i only scored 15 before i was ready to move on... and, i will say that i don't appreciate the block colors getting washed out when placed; i prefer a brighter/more colorful look.

and you're probably not getting much feedback since, well, it's no longer 1984... as dr. tank suggested, a spin on the original might do well in getting (much less keeping) a player's interest. ie, add something different/new to the genre. a little gem of a game that comes to mind is jimpo's Blocks where he added a few power-ups while incorporating a "tug of war"-type element to an otherwise "simple" game, making it stand apart from other similar games (also, note: Blocks' game window is no larger than it has to be... you've got a lot of un-used space on yours. that is, unless you plan on filling it in with something (? ) ).

regardless, you've got a working project and that's to be commended. thanks for sharing!

It speeds up everytime you remove any lines. But it speeds up the same amount when you remove multiple lines as when you remove 1 line.

Yes, that's probably it... I have planned some changes/updates to the gameplay, possibly with multiple levels, however I wanted to finish the base of the game before I started experimenting too much with gameplay mechanics.

Strange... It works on my screen (obviously), but I'll check the code and see if there is any reason why it wouldn't show it.

Anyways, thanks for the comments.

HIGHSCORE BUGFIX:
I updated the top post with a new download which hopefully fixes the highscore screen... *crosses fingers*

EDIT: Also you can get to the main menu with ESCAPE now.

I'm not sure if this was criticism of the music... was it?
I know it's a bit repetitive... for now...

I faded the "locked" bricks so you could easier tell the difference. Would it be better if they stayed the same color, or got brighter?

i like the music and, for me, i'd rather the bricks stayed bright. if you want to signify "locked", how about turning the locked bricks a "gold" color (or some other un-used color)?
ie: set sprite diffuse SprNum, 237,218,82 ?

in the end, it's your project and you should do what you feel is right. please don't take any criticism as more than suggestion

I don't but I was actually not too fond of the faded bricks either. I like the fact that you can tell that they are locked in, but they were just too greyish...

A little secret... I don't actually use sprites.

You should check out this:

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=174719&b=5

A few other people have added it to their games, and it's really cool. People on the forum get to be on the same scoreboard and can compete to be top.

Forgot to reply to this...

I have seen this on the forum, and I might try and implement it a little later. Could be fun with people competing on the forum.

But first I wanna tweak the game a little and probably come up with some new and fun game mechanics. It's a bit basic atm.
