Hi, for Christmas, i got my own personal little server and so i loaded Ubuntu server edition on it. I messed around on it for a while and recently decided to try running my game's server through wine on it.

Then:

This happened again after compiling again in "hidden" window mode and removing all graphic things. Is t possible to run a darkbasic pro server on Ubuntu? If not, is there anyway to create a program separate from darkbasic that can interact with my game?

Thanks.

It'll probably be possible, but I can only imagine that it'll take a lot of tinkering with wine, and i'm pretty sure it's never worked before.

I think that you can use DarkNet's library in c++ so you could write your server side software with that.

For internet communication, you can really use any language that can receive data packets. You might want to check out purebasic that can run on windows, linux and mac, can receive and transmit tcp packets out of the box.

You could, however it would be a lot harder to do certain calculations such as 3d collision and physics... If you were just using a different language for something like a master server to keep track of games, a different language like python or purebasic would be fine.

Thanks for the replies! I'm a cheap guy so I don't wanna spend money (I got darkbasic and a couple plugins as past Christmas gifts) so I don't think Purebasic would work (plus I tried the demo version and it was very confusing). But python looks like a good candidate! I use multisync for my multiplayer. How would one go about making a python program to communicate with it?

Shouldn't individual clients do the calculations then send the results to the server which are then forwarded to other clients to update the players on screen?

Depends on what you're trying to accomplish.
