hello everybody
i'm currently making a game and have realised how the game will look different on different computers if the brightness is adjusted
if you could just post what your monitor brightness is here - 255 is the max on my computer, but i have mine set at 200 - then i would be very grateful - i don't really know what the 'standard' setting is for a monitors brightness
thanks
Robin

Each monitor have it's own brightness. My monitor is getting old and it's starting to give off less light, I always turn up the gama if I can. There are monitors that are so bright on max that you can't look at it for loong periods and the are monitors that are so dark on max that you have problems seeing stuff.

the only reason i can still see outta my 5 year old NEC moniter, is cause i clean the tube once a week... i really need to buy a new moniter for that PC... or just take one of the 2 moniters from my Recording computer... but that would screw me over...

about 10-15%. But this information isn't going to get you anywhere.
My monitor can be pretty bright, if I want to, as this is no cheap one. 19" Viewsonic G90+(black), wasn't the best one, but the only I could get. Still cost over 300€.
Contrast also matters, and I have it at 90-100%. But when I play games or watch videos, I tend to use the "ultrabrite" mode that adds a lot of contrast and some more brightness. Sounds kinda dumb, but it is actually pretty useful.

Every monitor is different, and you'd need an external calibration device to compare them and set them to similar levels.

I dont think ppl understood the question. Every monitor's settings will have 100 max, but thats not its brightness/contrast ratio.
I couldn't find info on mine, but i have a 19" pro series viewsonic pf790

This is like one of those adverts on the TV..............

Take a look at this latest Trinsonic Flatscreen Television. With extra brightness and contrast, that gives you this..........
extra sharp picture, and bright colours...

.......and you go WOW what a fantastic picture!

But the thing is.........

You're watching the picture on your own TV!

...and you think it looks great!

CTX VL700 usually what i use Brightness 15 Contrast 100 RGB 8500,8200,8200

but then you have to take into account my personal preferences, colour setting, nView, etc..
the information at the end of the day is pretty useless.

Why not just have a user defined Gamma setting in your prog?

91 out of 100. But each monitor is different.

If you want to display colour more accurately, get a tft monitor.

I have crt.

I think a general rule of thumb is to adjust it until true black is the same shade on your screen as the black perimeter you get. This will be quite close.

mine's somewhere around 80%. i don't know exactly what it is, it's just a bar with no numbers.

my 6-year-old NEC works just fine. i don't know why Snake makes it sound like monitors should die before 5 years old :o

stop looking at me!

ok sorry i have been able to reply for a while
thanks for the help!
As people have so many different settings i think i'd better just make the game and then the users can adjust the brightness, contrast etc. of their monitor to suit it best
thanks

Unfortunately that picture won't show what your monitor's white looks like. It will only show what our monitor's white looks like, this is because you can't take a screenshot of what your monitor shows, only what's being displayed. To show us your white you'd have to take an actual photo and upload it and even then lighting would affect it.

Very sure. See, my computer has a very dark maximum brightness so on my screen it shows a light-grey despite it being actual pure white.

If your monitor can't display white then you should get rid of it, it's useless for artwork.

lol ^_^ what a wierd subject line... I was like, WHAT THE HELL!? why the hell would someone need to know that...

sorry it just seemed a bit stange to me...

anyway, I'm pretty sure most people have enough common sense to adjust their settings when things don't work the way it should...

I think mine are set around 60-80(I think)

I guess it's lucky I program then and don't do artwork. Plus, not everyone has the money to just go around throwing out monitors because they can't display perfect white.

perhaps he works for AOC and needs to do some undercover work
the best way to know is for you to do a greyscale of 10 shades, then ask people to adjust thier monitors until they can barely see no5

then say what thier settings are and monitor that would actually warrent some interesting information so you could find out roughtly what lines of monitors would need what gamma settings.
guess you'd have to find out what they were running from the system resources - else as them to use a dropdown menu.

personally i'd just put a gamma control in the vid menu
