Can anyone give me some advice concerning the creation a mod for FPSC?

I have coded in DBPro and C++ before, so I'm not after a lesson in code, just roughly what I need to modify.

As i understand it, FPSC is written in DB and that you need to modify the code in DB in order to create a 'mod'.

Is it a 'simple' case of downloading the source code from here:
http://www.thegamecreators.com/?m=view_product&id=2001&page=Files
Then playing with the code until my heart's content?

You might also want to keep tabs on the google code FPSC v1.18 source because I'm not sure how in-sync the included source is. There's been a lot of evolutions in FPSC lately.
