Hi all

Now I have had to rebuild windows xp from scratch, however I had DarkbasicPro installed on usb extranl drive, everthing still there and after running DBProVersionScan.exe eveything works how it used to.
What I am unable to do is make the upgrade 7.7 see that BarkbasicPro is there, even when I locate where it is and run the updater it say it cannot fibd it.

What do I need to put somewhere for it to find it again?

You'll need to install it to the USB drive again as the reinstall of windows does not have any details of it in the registry.

Put the following into a text file, amend the path where indicated, and then rename the file to have a .reg extension. Then double-click it.

No, the double-backslashes are needed - the regedit program treats them in the same way that a C or C++ compiler does, as backslash is the escape character.

Nop, still can't get it to work, cannot see anything in the regedit that show that darkbasic it there either, if that what the above it supposed to do, or should this file be put in there?

Possibly. But that was what IanM told him to do. I wonder whether IanM meant to keep the C: bit.

Edit Actually that snippet IanM provided looks quite different from the exported reg file for that key on my laptop. Perhaps something else is needed?

That's what I told him to do alright, because I didn't notice that he wanted to keep the installation on the USB stick

So, to add to my previous instructions...

... and change the drive letter to match your target drive too

[I've substituted ? for some random looking alphanumeric strings in the last three lines.]

The interesting thing about mine is that I have a second copy of DBPro on my laptop (in the usual folder - i.e. not the registered one shown above) and I always have to change the install path when I upgrade. Everything works fine though from this other location, i.e. the usual

So I'm rather surprised that HowDo is having this problem. Perhaps some other files need to be copied to this other location? Something like a certificate file perhaps?

Edit Just realised I haven't installed U7.7 on my laptop yet. I'll try it and see if I get the same problem and then report back.

Edit2 Installed U7.7 and no problems so far.

well I've tried lots of variations on the above and still no joy.

what ever the install program looks for I've not set it yet?

wonder if the cd will reinstall it without wiping every thing out, going to give a try.

I was hoping there would be a shortcut to installing it, seem I need to know more about windows to be able to do this.

Just remember why I didn't want it to be reinstall, didn't want to going thorugh the bother of renaming the main.htm file so that it would should all the extra help file that are not listed in the installed version, might have been quicker just to do what I end up doing.
