Ok. there is another thread on this with more info. But it seems that dbpro is completely unusable for some unknown reason on Windows 7. For me, it is an urgent matter because of a work deadline.

The editor works fine, but programs do not run, not even programs compiled previously.

A program compiled on the win7 computer runs fine on another computer with Xp or vista. So the problem seems to be with a windows update and libraries installed with it.

The error message is "program could not be initialized, error 0xc0000000005"

TGC please help us find the problem. A user reported to downgrade dbpro, but it is an unpractical solution.

Do you have DX 9.0c installed?

Yes, I have all needed components installed. It was working until early january, I suspected some windows update but discovered that in fact (as other users suggested) it was the latest update of Avast Antivirus the one blocking somehow the execution of DBP programs.
I uninstalled avast free and installed AVG free, not as good but not so bad.
Anyway, I recommend a separate firewall, and I use PCtools firewall.

Problem solved so far.

Avg has had serious problems since v11 was released, just something to bear in mind if other strange things start happening!

Yes, am aware that AVG has some issues. Thanks. Am planning to install Avira on the next days.

The problem is not with Avast, as I have win7 and avast and it runs fine, just putting it out there.

Care to elaborate? Surely running two identical programs together on the same operating system will have the exact same results on both computers

Mad Nightmare,
I had Avast installed since 2006. Dbp since 2004. Both worked along until the last avast program update, a few days ago, Jan 2011.
I upgraded to win7 almost a year ago.
You are right, it can work along without trouble.

As a scientist myself, experimentally I can tell that it was the only factor that made DBP fail. Since many dbp users had the same problem with the same solution, there is a common point.

You can not assure that two programs on the same OS will work identical. There are drivers, hardware, many factors that create different conditions.
