Hi all,

For the last few weeks, any code I compile in dbp seems to result in a crash (Error: 0xc0000005) whenever I try to run the executable file. I had been using update 7.5 for a few months, and up until recently, everything had been working perfectly. The only change in my system I can think of is installing steam, and possibly that having something to do with its constant updates of directx for each causing some sort of conflict.

I just tried running the directx web installer from the microsoft site, as well as updating to dbp v 7.6, however neither of these things seems to have solved my problem. Exes I made from older projects still run fine, its only newer ones which seem to have a problem.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in Advance.

Silly question, I know, but are you saving your projects before you run them? Sometimes it won't run properly if you don't save it.

Alternatively, have you tried using an alternate IDE such as BlueIDE?

there have been a number of other threads about similar issues and the gist of it is that it had to do with a recent virus scanner update from either McAfee or Avist (sorry can't remember which).
until they update their virus definition db you will have to manually have to set exclusions.

Thanks for the fast replies guys.

To answer your questions:

@CumQuat: Yes, I tried saving my code/projects prior to compiling, and I also tried compiling in both the standard IDE as well as code surge. In both cases I get the same result.

@ mr_d: That's very interesting to hear. I'm currently running avast myself. I just tried compiling while my antivirus was disabled but to no avail. I'll try uninstalling Avast and using this (http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/) instead, hopefully that helps.

Just some food for thought. Having read up on that error code, it seems that a few people (not specifically dbp related, just general) may also get it from faulty ram modules. Now I DID upgrade my ram in the near past, however if that were the problem, I would have expected to be getting the same error from a range of applications, as opposed to purely dbp compiled exes. Regardless, if changing my antivirus software doesn't help then I'll do a memory test. I'll put up the results here just in case anyone is having similar problems to me.

Thanks again.

I have Avast too, and never had any problems with it. Must be something else that causes your problem.

Cheers

Update:

Uninstalling Avast did the trick for me. As soon as it was gone and I had restarted, all dbp compiled exes ran fine. Thanks again mr_d for the tip .

@ The Slayer: Perhaps its sensitive to other things running on our pcs as well, but I can confirm that things have gone back to normal for my case since I removed it. I'd been running Avast for the longest time prior to getting these errors, so it is a bit surprising.

I had this problem with some code Van B gave to me. The compiled exe he sent wouldn't run, the code he sent wouldn't run when I compiled it. Yet my own projects work just fine.

This was Win 7. The same code and exe work fine on another Win 7 laptop, adding more confusion.

The laptop it fails on has Avast, so I will try to test this theory later this week, and we can prove this is the problem between us.

Regarding this project and others that work fine, the only difference as far as I can see is Newton Physics, which is part of Van B's code.

@ BatVink: Interesting that its only certain projects that give you that error, my crashes were indiscriminate. With any luck replacing Avast sorts things out for you.

@ The Slayer: As long as Avast keeps working for you then that's good! I quite liked it as far as antivirus software goes.

For anyone else who stumbles across this thread with the same problem and wants to know the full story:

That's where to go as JDforce said.

@The Slayer
A possible reason you may not have run into the same problem with Avast could be that you did not install the latest update of the software that they put out. This may have been the case if you don't have automatic updates turned on, or maybe manually declined to install updates for some reason. Since Avast have basically admitted that it was them...
Also, from the other thread, it seems it only affects Win7 (64?) machines, so if you're still on XP or Vista, you shouldn't have been affected.

It has been as while now. Any news on whether Avast is making any progress?
