move the entity over the object you wish to place it on top of, then press enter, this moves it up so that it will sit on top of it.

also pressing pg up and pg down can fine tune the height.

If you place dynamic items on top of another item, you may want to set the items properties to isimmoble=1 so it doesn't fly off the table when you start the game.
