After upgrading from FPS C 1.0 to 1.17011 many but not all dynamic entities turns pitch black in my earlier games. In creations made after the update entities appear normal with their textures.

Is there any way to save my pre-update games?

Pitch black? very rare your problem, I never happened to me so, try to reinstall the update, if the problem continues you'll have to reinstall FPS Creator.

Some pre-1.17 models or custom retextures turn black when using the full shader option in test or built game. It also depends on the graphics card and the windows version one uses (but has nothing to do with the quality of the later ones)

There are 2 solutions:
- Don't use shaders
- Search for the right shader to put upon the entity.

If its an official MP or store bought you should check if there's an update available, otherwise you can also try to contact the artist.

How do I modify shaders? I’m about five days in to the learning process on this program

The strange thing is that my new game levels, which I made after the update, appear not to be affected by this problem.

Ok I checked it out how to modify shader effect. But it does not help at all since I aperently never used it in any of my games.

The shaders are in the effectbank folder under files.

Each one does a different thing.
In the editor when you right click on an entity. Down below the texture spot is where you can change shader FX.

Some shaders only work for Boned skinned entities (character or anything rigged with bones)

Some only work for Segment Items
Some only work for Static entitys
Some only work for dynamic entitys
Some are full screen process' like Bloom and Depth of Feild and other custom ones made by Forum members.

Switch them and test the level.
Also you will need to shut down FPSC and look at the setup.ini files in the top section and you will see some more options for shaders in that. setupdescription.txt will explain what is what in that file.

Usually if an entity or object is not showing up, then either the shader is being use as not intended. Or there are not enough textures for the entity to complete what the shader needs to diplay proper. Some times you may need to make adjustments to the textures them selves, if you are using custom stuff.

If you intend to modify a shader. Open it in notepad and look for tweakable listings. They will be in the upper part of the shader file

Hope this helps
