Hello guys, I made a SCAR SMG for my game and for PWP, but I have spent the last 2 hours trying to get it UV Mapped and Textured so it works, but have had no luck. I made it in Milkshape, and am rigging it in Milkshape to Errant AI's MP5N in Milkshape. I just need someone to UV map it and texture it. And then them tell me how I would assign it to my gun so it uses that texture in game.
Texture : This is what I got when I tried to UV map and texture, but it didn't work, in test game it was showing up as if it had no texture

The texture I made:

Gun Model picture:

What I'm doing to make the model FPSC Ready
1. Build Model
2. Open the HUD.x file of the gun with the animations and others that will be used to rig the gun, in fragmotion. In this case, MP5N from Model Pack 9.
3. Export as MS3d file
4. Open custom gun, and merge the HUD.x file into it
5. Scaled and position Custom gun to the same size and position as the MP5
6. Delete all MP5 Groups, leave the hands
7. Assign all joints to the new gun
8. Open newly rigged gun in Fragmotion
9. Copy the MP5N gamecore folder and paste it into a new folder in the gamecore\guns and rename 'Gun name here'
10. Save the new gun in Fragmotion as an .x file and replace the old HUD.x file in the new folder, with the new guns .x file. Making sure it too is named HUD.x

Thats what I do, but I left out when Ive tried Texturing because it never works. And if no one can UV and texture it for me, can someone tell me how and when, and where to put the files and all.

Email me if you'll UV and texture it for me so I can send you the model.

Thanks!

Well, in gimp, but i did it over the outline from above, so it was okay if it was sloppy around the outline cause that part didn't show up anyways.

does it save the uv co-ordinates right to the model? That way when I open it in FragMotion to make the HUD.x, It shows the texture how it should be?

And here is a .avi video of the animations
EDIT: file was too big, didnt upload

model looks quite good but like a lot of people here your trying to run before you can walk.if you are serious about making game quality models you need to learn to uvw map modeling is just one small part of creating a game ready model ,after you have made the model you need to lay out your uvs to make the most of your texture space & make it easy to texture.
take a look at the uv maps for the stock models you will see that almost all the map is used try to get your maps to look like them.

make a few basic models like boxs & barrels uvw map them (search google for tutorials for your uvw mapping program there will be loads)then work on getting them to look the best you can before you move on to more complicate models like guns.

you will thank me for it later if you do

hope this helps

cheers henry

how would i do that?
but thank you for your help and thanks for the encouragment.

on a side note, here is a video of the animations, rigged to MP9 M4-A1
Animations Video

and i will get on to learning simple uv mapping right away

i dont use fragmotion but i think there is a tab on the right hand side of the screen that says textures. if you click in there you can load the textures.

looks like you have got the hang of rigging in fragmotion, well done

cheers henry

thanks, what i did was open the hud.x of the gun with the animations i want, export it as a .ms3d file and merge it into the file of my gun, then delete the model of the hud.x i converted except the hands, then assign the joints and its done.
there is a right hand texture icon but every thing ive tried to do with it never worked. but one sec i just had an idea

Thanks! That's not the assault rifle design I went with, I had to remake some of it and Put a sweet EoTech Red Dot Sight on it and it looks way better! I'll try to find the pictures of the updated version on post it up next weekend
