will nodes be able to hide parts of single objects... say parts of 1 level objects not visible to the camera. Or can nodes only hide separate objects

I think it will only hide separate objects, because calculating which polygons are visible and which are not would need more time, than actually drawing them.

That's right - it eliminates objects, not individual polys. Doing visibility calculations on polys would give you even slower frame rates.

The best way to use the nodes system will be to ensure that your static objects fit entirely into a node by breaking them up into smaller objects if necessary (I believe some 3D modelling progs already offer this option).
