Im sorry but I am going to have to step in..

Unless there is some viable reason, like maybe some kind of well known trusted mod, be it any program, app, software (what ever you want to call it), always, always and I stress always download it from the source.

To me it is just a horrible and un-safe practice to download anything from a second source.

I know that softpedia is a popular source for downloading, but all DirectX downloads can be downloaded from here >
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/resultsForProduct.aspx?displaylang=en&productID=9C954C37-1ED1-4846-8A7D-85FC422D1388

It is just best practice to go to the manufacture's website to download anything.

Scurvy, not trying to step on your toes or demean your advice. I am always fixing peoples computers after they say "All I did was click on this link".. it is very annoying to me that someone would click something when they don't know WTH they are clicking. So as said, it is just best practice to go to the source for downloads and it avoids the WHOLE "just clicked on a link, don't know what happened!"..

Sorry if this post is a bit much for anyone.. it is just one of my really big Peeves.

It's an ok advice but MS are really lousy at indexing their latest releases however and that's probably why most get it at Softpedia.

Scurvy, it is right there on the page I linked to.

And the same link shows up on a search for DirectX 9, right from Microsoft's home page.

It is such a big peeve of mine that I won't post to this anymore lol
It erks the crap out of me.

Ok, I didn't realise you pointed to the web installer. I always go for the latest version of the full redistributable version (which isn't on the list). Both will produce the same result of course.

Okay, I was wrong, I couldn't resist posting again.

<---! *facepalm*

1. Once again, search right from the Microsoft homepage, Shake-N-Bake.. and you have the most up to date version of Direct X

2. If you use the most up to date version, why would you suggest someone else use the out of date version in the first place?

*facepalm* - never truly ends !--->

Wgreg,

Download the webinstaller > http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3
Run it, then run your windows update to ensure evrything else updates and you should be good to go.
