Darkness demo

UPDATE: 10. May, 2011
New video with new music, "improved" intro, and the beginnings of a second part!
Check it out below...

INFO:
I had alot of fun with the Oldschool demo, so I decided that I wanted to do a more modern style demo with no limits to the type of effects included.
The aim is (hopefully) to create something artistic and entertaining, and try and make DBPro sweat a little...

Chris(thenerd) has also agreed to contribute something, and anyone else who is interested in showing what DBPro can really do are welcome to contribute.

The NEW video...

I'll try the intro exe later, but from what I've seen in the video it looks quite polished. Good job!

That's some cool music, but there's a bit of a thunder-sound overkill.

Mh, considering that I neither have time, nor ever made any spectacular realtime 3D effects, I probably won't contribute anything, but nevertheless I'm actually really motivated to do so.

Agreed....I wouldn't have personally had a thunder clap for every piece of text.

Other than that, it looks pretty cool!

Our aim is to keep the loo's clean, your aim can help.

Might be a bit loud, but I think it would be "strange" if there was lightning and no thunder?
I might turn down the volume a bit... what do you think?

Maybe you could vary the thunderclap sound or delay it sometimes to keep it fresh? I like the rain by the way, and I look forward to seeing where this ends up!

Just wanted to let people know that I haven't been working on this in a while (lack of ideas), but have begun working slightly on a second part yesterday...

If anyone has any ideas for cool effects they would like to see, please do say...

I should state however that me and Chris kind of agreed to NOT use shaders, as this wouldn't be native DBPRO code...
(even though I'm kinda interested in it )

Oh my god, this looks EXACTLY like the introduction to one of my games .

It has the camera looking into the sky, the rain, the thunder showing title logo and stuff.

Updated the top post with a new video featuring new music, an "improved" intro, and the beginnings of a second part.

Removed the Download since it is an old file, and the video pretty much shows what it's all about...

The video looks really nice. The first scene might be at bit too long, but the last part is certainly worth the wait. I've got no idea how you did that. I think it looks like you used a blur and some kind of distortion shader (not that I knew much about shaders..), but since you said that you won't use any, that's probably not it right?

Actually quite simple... It's a bunch of alpha mapped 3D-Planes with alpha mapping moving in a modified starfield configuration...

I got another effect in the works too...

That cube video is incredible. Really well done!

I'd love to play a puzzle game in that style...

I used to be an avid collector of demos and intros on the old Atari ST and Amiga. These took me back to them days... Nice!

Sorry if this is sort of off-topic, but enderleit, I've been trying to contact you for a while! Do you even still use MSN?

These are the nicest looking animation effects I've seen in a while; the cube sequence is my favourite so far. The rain in the first video looks realistic.

IMO, the clouds below the rain look a bit like smoke because of the dark tones and the speed at which the cloud particles evaporate.

thenerd: I use it, but haven't been online very much, and whenever I was online, you weren't there...

Chris Tate: I was going for kind of a steam effect...

I thought so. Therefore it is a good steam effect.
