and thanks to all of you friends of the forum, who use your time to play my game, thanks.

feel free to be critic as you like, the more you write, the better next version or the next game!

!!!

I don't much like it as a game but that's just preference (I've never liked any space sims but StarportGE) - I truly admire you though Ermes. - You do things I dream of doing myself. xD

Well done on finishing ESF. - It's been a long time coming.

EDIT:
You may want a mod to correct the title of this thread (straships)

xD Sounds tempting but I don't think the Soharix funds can stretch to cover the expenses, we're already incredibly over budget on WOR. (Besides I've already had my fill of Italy, I couldn't understand anyone and had 13 pizzas in 12 days xD)

Either way, there isn't much more I can learn about DBP; the only things stopping me these days are shaders and models. - And that's what I have my team for. (After WOR we'll be attempting to move on to use Java as we've rather outgrown DBP now.)

Still, don't let me detract from this PA, I only meant to post once to congratulate you on your success - compliments for WOR should really be left for it's WIP.

Congratulations Ermes I am downloading now and will try it out tonight!

Two of my all time favourite games should have been as good as this [Freelancer] and [Wing Commander III]

It's been long anticipated and extremely well produced from what I can see here. Well done!!

...and it was my pleasure to help

Just played the first 5 levels and I love it!

Well done! Now back to the game...

Oh, just one thing. It might be nice if 'escape' only paused the game, I just hit escape to make this post and the game just went away. "disable escapekey" and then to a pause menu when "escapekey()=1" would be a good idea in my opinion.

Love the music and atmosphere. Just how I imagined from the text!

thanks! BTW i like escape quit the game, often i play/test my games at work, and i need a fast escape.
but there is the pause key, "Q" pause the game. then "N" will continue game, "S" return to main.

it's a point to disable escapekey, as often i see in db games.

very proud you like the game Baxslash.

there are 4 different difficulty level, the game is calibrated on "normal" as my normal level of difficulty.

@Baxslash, what ship is actually your best ship in the first section of the game?? game is easy to play? do you like intros? let me know.

@Quel : what system do you have? directx 9.0c? newest vcard drivers?

@Cowbox Interesting, Java sounds interesting! I am moving on to C++ though...

Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

Everything is just fine here, it is just like every 5th game made with DB just won't ever start up. Never anything helped.

Ohh i'm so sad now...

Finally! i can make something else.
BTW starting now the editor for a tactics game like Disgaea, vandal hearts, Final fantasy tactics, tactics ogre and so on.
This kind of game is "easy" for me because it need a great skill on math and enemy ai, not so much in shaders, no need tons of graphics, and a small map. give me your best greeting.

Ermes,

Congratulations on your hard work!!! be proud of it!!!

As you are a MPL3D collaborator, and this game relates to subjects that we treat (space visuals), it would be an honor for me to feature your game in the news section of the MPL3D web page.

I also will be glad to provide a permanent download link (including space and bandwidth) for this game.

The same applies to any YouTube videos that you may want to be promoted, I'll try to give them a push.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Congratulations again! Well done!

Aww, I'm not able to play it.. :/
I get "Runtime Error 502 - Image does not exist at line 19549" at random times when starting the game. One time I got as far as to the screen resolution settings before it crashed. I tried installing in two different places(one being the default location specified). I also tried using admin mode and compability set to windows xp sp2.

This is really weird, but I'll try the game on another computer as well. I'll tell you how it goes.

I'm using Windows 7 64-bit on this machine, but my other computer is using 32-bit, maybe that will work better for some magical reason.

so strange zzz and slayer, control what is that line of code.... ! function i used to paste bitmap fonts... all over the game.

tested the installation on another pc, works. maybe you must use W7. can't understand.

Baxslash and Benigno Filippo have no errors on playing. you are both on W7???

stange, nothing wrong at that line.
try this new exe, is a modified version that ensure if there is or not the image to paste. maybe is some name windows wont load.

http://www.mediafire.com/?6jad77k9ktkv0ai

please, report back.

remember at work, ESF won't load for the same kind of error, changed pc, then worked. both xp. maybe vcard.

Haven't had time to try it on the other pc yet. I tried running the new exe in the game folder, but it gave me this error now:"Runtime Error 501 - Image number illegal at line 19235"

something bad i think, INCOMPATIBILITY. no image called with variables, and no image use in that section. ah! i've to compile on a W7 to test.

some of you have w7 and want to help me? there is the sourcecode in the main download, and the plugin you need to run the game, try to compile the exe, and post it. thanks!!!

edit: zzz/slayer try this, is windowed fullscreen.

Haha, good news, Ermes! It works! I tried the first version once more, and for some reason it did work the second time!
So, now its time to give it a good test.
Ow, and thanks for the credits! It was my pleasure. I would have liked to help you some more, but maybe next time, hey?

First impressions - It's fantastic! Played through the first couple of training missions so far.

Not wholly sure what everything does as yet, but a bit of a learning curve is to be expected with this type of game (look at the 'X' series games!).

It's well documented so its doesn't feel like you're totally left hanging at any time.

No problems getting it working once I'd told my Norman Virus Checker to ignore it, otherwise was giving me a W32/Starpage.IZY Trojan alert and it kept quarantining it.

Especially love the dynamics of the intro sequence - where it zooms through space and focuses on each of the ships in the area. Also love the fonts and colours used for them - reminds me of the vector Star Wars arcade cabinets from a way back.

Well done!

(And as a side note - just how many cargo pockets do you have in your pants???!!! )

I ran the game on Vista and XP. I'll test it on my netbook which has W7 but not sure if the startup resolution will be small enough... (max for netbook is 1024x600)

uff... the worst thing when you finish a game, is you would like to make another but this is what is happening in my head:

rem * routine to make another game
idea=0
repeat
cls 0
wait 60
sync
until idea=1
rem * ok make a new game *

stuck in a black screen.... need something=inc idea. any tutorial on this? plugin? shaders?

Here is the alternative download link for ESF:

http://dc313.4shared.com/download/Uhmh_7H4/ESF-Setup.exe

New published as well here:

http://www.mpl3d.com/index2.htm

It is working fine here under Windows XP SP3. I haven't tried the windowed version.

Quote: "...the worst thing when you finish a game, is you would like to make another..."

Lol, the usual post-project crisis. Take a moment to relax. Besides I remember you already got some ideas before finishing this... the star treck theme and spaceships?, bring in the normal map shader, etc. But don't forget to breath!

I love the part when I'm trying to think of a new game. I have too many ideas at the moment...

Look forward to seeing it whatever it is. I played your other games too BTW, loved Sunday Panzers!

I've been playing ESF on and off and love it. You've done a great job Ermes, well done! I love the amount of detail. You should contact Steve Vink and get the game promoted in next months newsletter.

I just Emailed his address to you.

Quote: "@Baxslash, just to know, what ships are actually using and at what point of the campaign you are?"

Can't remember the ship names at the moment, on about campaign 12 I think.

I'm very busy at the moment but I keep sneaking the odd game in here and there. Difficulty level is set pretty good at default level. I'll try a harder level later.

jpg corrupted.

try look in the folder "starfields" and load all the jpg. if it load ok without faults, it's a vcard/directx problem.

the error is for all the skysphere in the game????

@Baxslash, it's a simple plain textured with spacemen... nothing incredible BTW!
