Hey everyone, I want to know, are there similarities between FB^3 and DB? I learned FB^3 in a computer math class at school and just when I was starting to explore gaming concepts the damn course is now onto graphing calculator programming! heh...so I want to pursue this stuff a bit more, but not necessarily with FB^3, as it is a dev language for the *shudder* Mac...

What I'm really getting at I suppose is, would FB^3 to DB be a smooth transition, or would I basically be learning an entirely new language?

I havent used that one for the mac, I have used METAL on the mac and found the concepts of arrays and so forth the same as well as they both shared a basic syntax. I guess what im saying is the concepts can appear to be the same but the syntax can be vastly different and this is what you will have to relearn.

Programming principles never really change between languages, it's only the syntax that differs. There are ways to do things of course in DB that won't exist in FB, but the core knowledge you would have learnt (arrays, loops, variables, etc) is still the same.

Basic is Basic is Basic...

Basic is one language, and as such the dialects of the language share certain inherent characteristics. You will find a set of core commands that are shared. You will find that the way to construct the sentences of the languages are the same. You will find that the way to assign variables and arrays are the same.

So, at the core, things will be a lot similar. However, Dark Basic Pro is probably to Future Basic what Glaswegian is to Cockney. There's lots of stuff that's unique. There's other commands, there's other intrinsic functions, and so on.
