I searched this forum for "Netbook" and only found 1 thread by Bond1 back in 2009.
Needless to say, it was locked.
I didn't see many posts there to go on, so I thought I would ask pretty much the same question and see if there is any difference in the result now.

Anyway, I have been testing a 15 watt solar panel with a 12 watt dvd/tv (7 inch) with great results. (with a 7amp charge controller and a 12v lawn & garden battery
So I picked up 4 more 15 watt panels, and a little 30 watt Netbook.
I'm going off the grid soon, so I am going to give this 30watt Netbook a try with FPSC!
While I am pretty sure that FPSC v118 will crawl on this Netbook because of the little 1.6ghz Atom processor, I can still have fun with this thing for browsing the forum.

So, is anyone else running FPSC on a Netbook?

So far, I have to say yes, it is possible with fairly decent FPS.
That is, if you think about 15 FPS is decent, because I am getting like 14 FPS with FPSC v118 Beta 8, but that is a small room with only one enemy.
Not exactly ideal for gaming, but that is enough for testing scripts and what not, like viewing custom entities while working on them.
I guess the Netbooks are okay for testing custom media during its development, but not really up to par for building a game level.

Maybe someone else has fugured out how to improve on the fps though, I don't know.
I'm just getting started, but I was testing a talker.

I have been working on getting an off grid system running. In the next two years I want to be completely off the grid. I have found the best computer easily available right now is the Mac Mini. I have the 2009 model which is not as efficient as the new models, but still get good numbers on energy usage. Running OS X I can watch a DVD or a movie on an external hard drive (USB powered) at around 16 watts. XP on bootcamp increases the wattage numbers by about two watts. My mini has 4 gigs memory, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M video and 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo processor. My numbers running games varies between 16 and 30 watts depending on the game. I have an 18 inch LCD monitor that draws about 24 watts. If you don't have one already you should pick up a "Kill A Watt" meter. They are cheap and let you know how much current you are using. Good luck on your system

There are two kinds of computer users. Those that use Macs and those that wish they did.

If you consider a Alienware M15x a notebook, then yes, I'm using one.

He said netbook not notebook...

I have a netbook with a slow Atom processor and FPSC does work, but the framerate is nowhere near good.

But then again,Ghost recon 1 runs very slowly on it , so the whole thing is pretty weak (not that it is designed for this purpose anyway...)

I use a netbook for development work - like Conjured said, it's fine for testing, trying out ideas and so on. Also it is good to see what your finished game looks like on a different platform in case anyone who downloaded it tried.
A fully rendered game looks a bit odd because of the screen ratio, but the games will, more or less, run.
Not a main dev machine though.
