Does anyone have a copy of this book? I only found out today that it's got a section in it that I wrote, but I've never seen it! Nowhere on-line stocks it, even ebay didn't have copies

Cheers,

Rich

jot down the ISBN and take it to a waterstones store (my mom uses them alot to get books from everywhere) they can usually get you the book you want within a matter of 48hrs
should be one in a large local town.

I have got that book although I am not sure what edition it is. However I am away this weekend so I will not be able to check until Monday.

Is that OK?

Of course, if rich has an article in it.

I'll have to check this out and see what it has in it, as far as content.

I got the first edition free with the game programming starter kit a good few years back - the book was more useful than anything else.

More to the point it seems impossible to buy anyway although I reckon it might be included in the latest version of the game starter kit thing (of which we get lots of complaints even though we never even made it!!!).

I'll have a dig around, I can't even remember what I wrote, it was ages ago.

Cheers,

Rich

Ok, I found your article, and basically, you were asked to demonstrate how to use dark basic (you made a rotating sphere program, and an explosion program), you were asked if it is possible to create a full game with the software, to list some common obstacles for game programmers, and how DarkBasic aims to solve them, how much DarkBasic costs, and provide advice for newbie programmers.

Hi Rich,

Finally got around to checking and, sorry, I have the third edition.

Hope you find what you want.

I have the Third Edition - I remember it being a decent read, just basically explaining what software to use when programming games - C++ and 3DSMAX were highly touted Also it explained concept & design tactics for game development. Thank god for DB.

The main problem was it didn't really explain how to make a game!

A computer program will always do what you tell it to do, but rarely what you want to do.

David - I don't think it was supposed to though. At least that wasn't the brief we were given by the "author" when he contacted us.

Cheers,

Rich

I remember the whole kit - It came with the book, the genesis 3d engine and a learning edition of C++. And that's it

It did have the ebook of c++ in 21 days, but on the whole nothing was explained about how to make games! They would have done better bundling a copy of DB (this might have been done later on) and giving you a large book of tutorials

I bought that! The e-book it comes with is "Learn C++ in 21 days" and one of the programmers at my work laughed at me Apparently, that's one of the worst possible books you could pick up for learning C++.

Secrets of the Sages is about game design rather than production. It was a somewhat interesting but ultimately boring and pointless read. I have the 2nd edition, no DB there.
