Basically what the title says.
I have a 2048 texture and normal map to apply to the terrain model i have made. Only problem, is when i render even in max with settings high, the texture is very low res and blurry. What should i do about the texture? render a higher resolution one? or make a tile texture. Im sort of lost here.

Hi. Are you using 3DMax to make your terrain?. In that case you could fit your object 3x3 or more. I personally prefer Advance Terrain, and use a goog detail map.

Cheers

I think a 2048 texture is as high as you should go, but you should combine that with a detail texture which is tiled over your main texture. That should be easy to do since I presume that you are using a normal mapping shader.

You could also break your terrain into multiple objects and texture each of them separately. If you break it into a 4x4 grid and apply a 1024 texture to each "Limb", then that should be twice as much detail as you currently have.

Any reference on how to do that? Sounds awesome, its just i dont have experience with multilayered textures and terrain.

I don't have a link to any demos, but assuming that your shader is written in HLSL I could add that in for you. Could you post a simple terrain demo? It wouldn't need to be anything fancy, just a normal mapped terrain.

[EDIT] I am working with dial-up internet, so if you do post a demo try to keep it small.

no, i cant find any shaders to run on my laptop. And thats what im dev'ing this for. I am running a 915GM which has no vertex shader support and pixel shader 2.0.

Then how are you applying the normal map to your terrain? Using the DBPro blend mapping commands?

Im sorry, i didnt elaborate, i rendered it in max with a normal map.
I want to get the actual texture working right in db before i worry about the normal map.

It seems like you should be able to make shaders work.
