I've searched the forum but I can't find how to do it - how do you apply a shader that effects the complete look of a level (such as making it black and white for example)? Thanks

You need to use a full screen shader. One of the best is the cinematic filmgrain shader by bond1. You can search it and find it for free here on the forum. To customise it you need to buy Dark Shader from TGC (well worth the money in my humble opinion).

Thanks, thats the one I downloaded actually, and am eager to test it out - but what do I do with the .fx file; how do I apply it to my game?

Go into the files\effectsbank\ps20\ folder and replace it with postbloom.fx (backup that one though)

You won't get to customize it without Dark Shader though.

I've done that and it hasn't worked - has built exactly the same as normal

Make sure you have postprocessing=1 in setup.ini and not postprocessing=0 or something else. 1 means it uses postbloom.fx

Take the shader you downloaded, put it in the effectbank, under ps_2_0. Remove the one named post-bloom, and put it somewhere safe. Rename the one you downloaded to post-bloom. Go to your main FPS Creator folder, and go to Setup.ini, change postprocessing=X to 1.

In test game it should appear, make sure you turn full shader effects on.

You can customize it without Darkshader, in the fx file you can change the values - float Color, float Monochrome, float BrownSepia, float GreenSepia, float BlueSepia,
float Contrast, float Brightness, noise effect intensity value, and scanlines effect intensity value. To change these values, change this; > = 0.15; to whatever you want.

On the 2nd or 3rd page of Bond1's thread, Dark James posted some he customized himself, which saves you some trouble.
