if thats true then i think dbp will be extinct in a few years as people lose interest in developing it.

This is a good question. As long as they keep updating it, I think it will continue to grow.

@ LeeBamber/TGC,

Yeah I would also like to know what you have in mind for the future.

I thought that the heir apparent might be AppGameKit but it seems to be something different.

Isn't it open source already? I thought I read something in some newsletter containing instructions for how you can download a working copy of the source code via SVN.

Was I suffering vivid hallucinations at the time?

Edit: No I wasn't!

Darkbasic Pro does have a future otherwise they wouldn't be updating it anymore. Yes, they are focusing right now on the App Game Kit but they will still continue to support Darkbasic Pro because it's their main baby.

You're funny...

If you want an answer from Lee Bamber or an official TGC representative about this you need to contact them via email. It's a bit silly to expect them to check every forum thread.

There's a thread like this started every 6 months or so, I'm never 100% sure why.

DBP is a fully supported and constantly updated language. The future of any product relies on the demand of it's customer base. DBP has lots of paying users and the plugins seem to sell well too. Maybe the new AppGameKit will reduce the number of DBP users but as AppGameKit doesn't support 3D I don't see DBP being killed off just yet.

EDIT: Sorry if this comes across as a flame. Not intended, just so you understand why I thought this was funny, DBP was updated 15th Feb, just 7 days before this thread started...

all i want 2 know is what dbp will be someday, will they seriously work on it & try to catch up with other game developing software? i personally think dbp is years behind other software like g#
or will they keep tinkering with it,fixing a code here & there while it still doesnt even have latest dx capability. :/

What's g#? Never heard of that one... googling...

I hear you but who knows what they're doing behind the scenes. There is source for DX10 available. They had to write it for FPSC X10. Maybe they're working on updating it?

What you were saying is that DBP has no future... not true.

I'm not saying DBP is perfect or the most up to date game based language out there, just sounded like you were having an unjustified and unfocused rant to me. Now you are getting specific and to an extent I sympathise and agree, but no future? You were hoping for a reaction surely?
