This looks like a known issue in DB Pro, but in case anyone hasn't seen it:
Windows 7 SP1 seems to break FPSC v 117. I've run all the comapatability checks and done a complete vanilla re-install and upgrade back to 117 and it's very broken.
Apprently Lee has tweeted on the subject and it looks like the only option is to move up to 118 beta.
Anyone got any more light to shed?

Does it break games made with 1.17 or does it break the editor only? I'm just not going to update to a Beta that's not ready for use.

Hi Brian,
I'm on my laptop so haven't got a full set of my files here. It'll see what checks I can run though.
However I can confirm that the problem seems to lie mainly with the editor install; v118 has installed fine for me and runs ok.

Fully agree with your reluctance to upgrade until it's out of beta.

Latest update, in case it helps anyone.
v118 works ok, but won't compile a game, usual error messages at the end followed by program termination. Basically means that W7 systems are either out of bounds for the moment, until a patch or v118 is fully stabalised. The other alternative is to roll back to prior to SP1, but that may not guarentee compatabilty and could in theory compromise your machine from a windows security point of view.
Bit of a pest to be honest.

Thanks MK83, I'll try again.
My win7 machine won't launch compiled games made with the latest 117, but will launch earlier files.

It might interest you to know Wolf also posted the same issue in the Bugs section.

I rang your home, but you must be away from there.

Yes, SP1 for W7 does not work for v1.17. For some reason sp1 does not play well with the last version of DBPro. The new version of DBPro is still in testing however, r3 of upgrade 7.7 fixed it. Here is what Lee has said:

Quote: "Updates:
Status: Fixed

Comment #2 on issue 52 by LeeBamberTGC: Windows 7 SP1 causes games to not run
http://code.google.com/p/fpscreatorengine/issues/detail?id=52

Are you using the BETA9 from the forum, or one built from DBP? There was an update the DBP to solve this issue, and will certainly be fixed for BETA10."

He also had a few words about MS that I won't repeat here.

It should work with the official release of beta9 but will not necessarily with a mod unless the mod was compiled using the most current release of DBPro 7.7

FPSC version 1.17 was compiled with DBPro 7.6 I believe. If I can get a hold of v1.17 source code again I could compile it under 7.7

Check the repository you and I share. It is there in the FPSC v1.17/FPSC Source folder with our RPG Mod versions. I've included it there in case it is needed. That is the last one I had unless there were changes made and I missed them.

Actually this issue comes from a Win7 update that messes everything up.

Remove this one and restart the PC.

@Gencheff, are you sure this is the SP1 update. This type of number usually is a security update. The problem lies in SP1 and I would think that it would be shown in the update history on you computer as SP1. Remember, too, that this is only for Windows 7.

I have W7 and I have not as yet updated to SP1.

I have that update installed and it does not affect FPSC editor, build process, or built games with V1.17

I don't have SP1 for W7 installed.

I have Win 7 , I had the same error and some fella suggested I remove that update.

After it's removal FPSC started working.

Don't take my word for it,that's what took me to fix the above said issue.

True. The more issues they give, the more you miss DOS 6.22

I recently went to win 7 sp1 and FPSC would not run. However, after downloading the latest build of FPSC all was fine. My runtime error 118 blah blah blah went away. whew!

@Blackfox: thanks for the call, I'm out of the office, if you need my mobile, let me know. Appreciate the attempted call though.

General Comment: It seems to me that unfortunately Lee will need to wave his magic wand and come up with an 'official' patch to make FPSC run under W7 SP1, as, going forward, it will only compound issues if people have to remove updates as Gencheff has discovered.

In the meantime, W7 users are victims of windows.
Ho Hum.

This is odd, as I'm running Windows 7, with SP1 and apart from my FPSC shortcuts being deleted, which was strange, everything is working without any issues.

I've tried, beta 9, V116, WASPmod V2 and my own compiles for the offical source and all's working.

Looking around the threads, it does seem as though some people have got away with it - good for them!
The fpsc killer seems as though it might be in one of the security updates that follows and accompanies sp1 - but that's just guesswork on my part.

I don't use IE, nor outlook, I wonder if that's made a difference if it's security based?

@Scene Commander - I suppose it depends how clever Windows update is; if it can detect that software (such as IE8) is not present on your system, the offending update may have passed you by. However given the Microsoft sledgehammer approach to everything else...

@Flatlander - love or hate? Right now, would you like to hazard a guess?
