Quote: "I didn't mean about stability, I apologize I should have clarified. The fact is, there are still many people who have basic hardware and who still run XP. Sadly, x10 games don't play on XP because XP cannot utilize a standard copy of DirectX 10. Sure, there are modified drivers and versions, but they're not what anyone could even consider stable. I am not debating hardware support at all, or anything of the nature. I love my PC, 64 bit is the true way to go. Regardless, when a person was buying FPS Creator x10, they knew they were getting a product that was limited on support and users. Face it, the shaders people create now can EASILY beat the default visuals for x10."
Agreed. Though, I didn't initially research the differences and made the fatal assumption that the most recent version (and the most expensive version) would be the best. While I work in a graphics lab, I, myself, am not a graphics researcher - rather I am a game designer and scripter. The current project I am working on involves the creation of 25 educational mini-games - many of which I am tasked to do by myself. As I was contemplating the impossibility of getting all these done in something like Flash, I found FPSC.
A quick glance at both platforms would lead most people to believe that FPSCx10 is the superior product - utilizing newer technology. When I saw the water in x10, I shed a tear of joy.
So...here I am. 6 months (at about 80-100 hours/week) into development in x10. To switch to x9 would mean to scrap all of my previous work. Given infinite time and resources, I would halt all x10 production and switch to x9. But, back to the real world, I am going to have to work within the limitations of x10 - all the while knowing there is a better option.
My bad for not reading through the forums before making the call but honestly I didn't even consider x9 at the time. The rest of the lab has been working in Ogre3D and they all complain about it being an outdated DirectX9 engine. Just wouldn't have occurred to me that the latest and most expensive version of FPSC is a dead end.
But hey, it's a beautiful day in Florida. Mid 70s with cotton ball clouds in the sky.
