I've been using FPS for only about a week and find most of what I want to do has been really easy. However, there is one problem I've been working on for 2 days now. If I take the .dds file into gimp or photoshop and change it then save it back into the folder in FPS the game still shows the original image in my test run. What am I doing wrong? The file saves just fine as far as I can tell. I have been replacing the original files with my modded ones. I would think the .X model would just reskin with my .dds file. Is there a step I'm missing? Is that not how it works?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping to create a more unique looking game with a different feel and want my models to really stand out but I'm not even close to being ready to make my own models yet (though I downloaded Blender today). Thanks in advance. I'm hoping the community here is as helpful as I heard you are.

P.S. I looked all over the forums for a reskin tutoral but the search brings back too many hits to display. Any advice on a good reskinning tutoral would be appreciated as well.

Hello and welcome,

Okay, first and foremost always make a copy of your original. You never want to change the original in case you need it later. 2nd, you have 2 choices in changing which texture you use. If you just overwrite the file it should pick up on it automatically. If it does not try running the cleaner (located in the main fpsc folder. It will remove all your .dbo and.bin files that have been created by the software. The other method is to place the character in your map, right click on it and under the texture parameter change it to your new texture.
The next method is to make a copy of all the files associated with that character, name them whatever you like. Open the .fpi file and change the texture to your new one. This way you have a completely separate character file and won't have to worry about changing the texture parameter each and every time you place it from the content browser.

One reason you may not be seeing the changes is because FPSC caches the .DDS file into a .DBO file. So if you change a texture file FPSC will not reload it until the .DBO file is cleared.

Go to the FPSC folder and run the "FPSCreatorCleaner" file. Press "Y" when asked if you want to run the cleaner.

This process removes all those cache files. The next time you start your new .DDS files will load.

Ray and Doc. Thanks a lot. I was not aware of the whole .DBO thing. I used a table from the the ww2 pack as a test and it worked great. Now I only have about 200 more reskins to go. lol.

Thanks again.
