Hey folks,

For a long time I've been frowning upon myself and thinking I'm unable to produce a decent sci-fi game/model pack/texture/etc.

For some reason I took a turn to the grunge lane, but honestly I always loved sci-fi and prefered it over grunge/urban styles.

Now that I'm over the "I can't do this" stage,I bring to your attention this new MP I'm working on...No fancy names,no photo references,no cheap effects, just blank texture sheets(as a start) and some creativity.

Since there's an obligatory screenshot to make this thread valid , Here's a random segment with Normal Mapping (bond1 shader) support.

With that out of the way, let's get started with some W.I.P Textures (People with slow connections can click this link instead - http://img846.imageshack.us/g/handpaintedscifiwall3.jpg/ )

Since the community's opinion is important,be honest and tell me if you like what you see so far,am I wasting my time, etc.

Cheers,
Gencheff

Love all of your work man, you've not only got great skill, but a refreshing style. one thing I'de like to see is some sort of futuristic resident textures (e.g. house, living room, office). just saying that that kind of sci-fi stuff isn't usually made.

Textures look great but I am not a big fan of adding skulls to textures. It sort of limits the use of that particular segment (much like the bio sign on the FPSC sci-fi stock windows).

But, I must say it's a great job

@Scurvy Lobster , Considering the user (you) will be given access to the Texture source files (.psd) as well as clean(er) versions , I doubt there will be room for limitation

Also a big "thank you" to everyone who shows support, this won't be just a segment pack, entities(static,as well as animated) will be included.

Hey folks,
I know this has been moving slowly (or not moving really...),but now that I have some free time,I got around to making the base metal texture from which I will be basing most of the other work for this pack.

I added some detail to it out of boredom and put it on a cube and flat plane to see how it looks.

Thank you.The normal map is a must

On another note,I started a few consoles using this particular base metal. Here's the first one :

I may add a few bolts to it just for detail...who knows.

P.S - If you have suggestions for the pack, let me know.

The console looks good, but the screen blends in with the rest of the metal material too much. You need to make it more like a screen instead of using the scratchyness on the screen too.

agreed with lewis on this one. btw i think this prop could have more detail, fpsc can easly handel 300 polys for a prop like this

texture looks great, as always lol

Slowly picking the pace back up again.

This time it's a boring door, but still useful.

Color variations are in mind,as well as a version without the sector X text for customization purposes.

All the textures are looking very good. I know they are "work in progress" but I'll throw in a few of my thoughts.

I love the texture on the console metal, but keyboards are out. I would like to see some touch screens instead (as little buttons as possible) and better use of the bottom face. Is this console for standing up or sitting in front of? Perhaps more of a recess down below would give it more shape and eye appeal.

Love the door, but again, screws are out. I think just moving the "sector" text to the top stripe would make it that much better. Perhaps the very center circle (in two halves) could be led - red or green for access information.

Brian.

Touché on that one...

Excellent input.I tried positioning the sector text almost anywhere on the door,to me this looks like a more appropriate place.

I like your idea about the led circle.I'll have to experiment a bit and maybe redo the circle and remove some of the grunge.

Thank you for the suggestions

Those look great. Can't wait to see it done. I disagree with the screws on the doors thing. They look good on there. If there's one thing model packs never have enough of it's doors. I'd like to see a lot of variations of doors if you have time to throw them in.
