Hello everyone, I am currently working on a game menu which I wish to share with the community. I will upload some screenshots of it in it's current stage of production, so that you can all take a look at it as I make it. Once it is complete, there will be an options menu aswell, and you will be able to change the background images and all of the text ect. The vanilla version will have the following options (you can change what they say);
Single Player
Multi Player
Options
Quit (or exit)

Also, by changing images, you could change "Multiplayer" to "Zombies" or anything else.

I may produce a 5 option menu, allowing people to make a "misc" or "zombie" or whatever game, but the path will not be hard coded into the program, but stored in an INI file, unless there is enough demand for me to hard code the path in. I will likely do this for a zombie mode. I will also make a 3 option menu for those who only wish to create a single player game.

Also, you will be able to change what it says (eg single player to single) by just changing a single image, also allowing you to change the theme of your menu. Enjoy, everybody. I will first release the menu without the settings option, then hopefully, with the settings options.

What I plan to include in the package;
-Main Menu with resources (such as buttons and such like)
-Options menu with resources (same here)
-Updater (to release updates and patches for your game)
-Compatibility for any other media I release (such as scripts and models etc)
-Free updates
*I may possibly edit the menus so that the quit button starts the main menu again. However, this would require the ability to run an EXE file. Another idea I could have is for the program to run in a "silent mode" while you play your game, but this may decrease performence.

I will not however, be hosting servers for you to store your updates on, the idea is that you upload your updates to a file server such as rapidshare (if you contact me with a specific URL, then I can implement it for you, otherwise you will need the basic updater in which the URL is stored in an INI file)

EDIT
Dodgy sketch of early development.

What are you creating this in?

C++ is labourless... if your name starts with 'L' and ends with 'ee'.

Thanks.

I am curious to see how this evolves further. "

Actually, that is just something I did up in paint at the time, as I did not have the menu on the computer.

I am making this in a program (EDIT Correction,a scripting language, not a program) called AutoIT3, which is a language similar to Basic, but way more advanced.

Will upload another screenshot later. It is looking much better now, and I will look into making another program that will allow you to customise the main menu (but not the options part of this, because that would require way too much work)

Would anybody be interested in testing what I have done so far with the options menu?

Awesome. I will send you a copy of it hopefully tomorrow (not with a game but I can give you a link to a game you can use it with if you like).

Pretty much just looking for bugs and anything you think should be adjusted.

EDIT
Oh, and btw, if you send me an email to either of the 2 email addresses shown below, I can send you a link to the files as soon as they are uo.

[email protected]
[email protected]

(preferably the second email address but I wont complain)

OK thanks. Also, I can include a few extra scripts, such as death scripts I am working on and so on (I just did one which will work with my menu, where it fades out after there are so many bodies there, currently, 12. But I plan on having the option to edit this through the options menu.

Hi Michael,

Have you thought about making a small program that would create the menu system?

you could have a stock pile of buttons and backgrounds and the program could allow the user to customise the menu screen as they like and it would produce the necessary script and copy the image files to the right place.

Just a thought.

Yes I have. It is great in theory, the only problem being is that you cannot create a hard - coded program like that without a compiler (which I dont know if you can do with this program too easily) I would make it work from an INI, but that is extremely insecure... however, it is a consideration that I might think about doing... I can already see 4 or 5 flavours of this menu being produced.

I suggest they upload the .ini file online so when the person starts the program, it retreives the ini files text and uses it from there. I know this from experience using VB.NET i was developing something like this but decided to stop. May to time taking.

Alright, I am going to scrap this in place of a menu designer. As suggested above, and it will allow you to personalize the script and have lots of the components hard - coded into your script, and I have found an open - source, or free, or whatever compiler that I am allowed to distribute freely. So in a way, this is aborted, in a way, it isn't.
