Hi.
I am using the stock skyboxes - especially the Night skybox.
The dds textures look really nice if i open it in Paint.Net.

But if I use it in FPS, it is getting distorted.
Please see the attached file.
It shows a screenshot - distorted moon in FPS game.
I have also put the texture file screen shooted from Paint.Net where the moon appears nice and sharp.

Is there anyway to overcome the distortion in FPS ?

Thanks

I'd say it's more of an aspect ratio issue...You have a wide monitor.

In a built game you can change the resolution from setup.ini

On a wide screen monitor everything gets distorted. My 17" monitor makes everything distorted not just the skybox. Maybe it's different for you. FPSC is designed for 1024x768p. However, theoretically you can change that I suppose. Although, I've had other issues when I do. Before I updated my graphic card drivers if I set the resolution to 1024x768 rather than the default 1920x1080 it would compress to the correct width. However, now it still stretches out to the full width. Very disturbing.

Here is a pic of what it should like like with the resolution of 1024x768.

Addendum:

Sorry about this. I think the max width for an image on the forums is 800. I'll change it if need be.

I dont use the FPSC Night Sky by default but from what I can remember, unless I am mistaken, in all indie engines I have used as said as far as I can remember - as a Sky box is composed of 6 sides or planes, then any such sphere type entities which appear on the sky box image are likely to distort in any case depending upon the acuteness of the camera angle and distance relative to each skybox plane. A camera angle of 90% or faceing directly towards the plane is likely to provide the most accurate representation of the original image.

This can be seen with other image types too and depending upon the camera lens set also it can be more or less prominent. One would require a very sophisticated software or other methods to avoid it completely presumably.

I may be wrong here but I cant ever remember seeing a perfectly round moon or other sky box images which do not distort to some degree in any Game engine I have used and I have used a few.

IN Cry, UDK and PK Engine, I sticked to using a skybox without Moon / Sun and then adding the moon or sun as 3D object.

Come to where the madness is:

Thanks for your replies.

But i find that the distortion happens because of the bloom post processing effect.
If i set the postprocessing to 0 or 2(depth of field) in setup.ini the distortion doesn't happen.
Thanks for your efforts and helps anyway.

I was going to type that.. still... you can turn the bloom down instead of completely deactivatin it. This would make the skybox look more vivid.

I would be glad to know.
How can i turn it down instead of deactivating it.
If there is no postprocessing the light objects look dull.
With depthoffield, the frame rate goes down.
So Bloom is in between - fps is also good, quality is also good. Everything except for the moon looks good in bloom.

Please tell how to bring down the bloom effect, so that moon appears normal but other light objects appear bloomed.
Thanks
