Its done, my first program announcement thats actually meaningful in ages. Its all open source, coded by me (sorry Kentaree, didnt use that code you supplied me way back when), and I'm happy with it. So, any suggestions or comments? Just a simple 3D limb animator, but I can always add more I know its only been a days worth of work, but it turned out pretty good.

Download it At:
http://nwg.dbpcommunity.com/software/Decoy.exe

Not bad, not bad at all.

Some suggestions.
-don't like manually inputting file name.
-Interface needs improvments.

But hey, I'm not complaining since you've made it open source. I respect that, and I think I'll be able to learn some very useful stuff on building animations inside dbp.

Gonna fix that soon, the way it is now is annoying, even to me.

I'm lousy with GUI's. But I'll try to improve it.

Might wanna check out Rob K's menu dll, or even the lightweight menu system.(You'll probebly have to do a search in the code snippets section for the lightweight menu's, and I have no idea where to look for rob k's dll. Might just wanna check dbp forum search.)

Overall, there's a good chance I'll use a chunk of your source to make my own animator.(don't worry you'll be in the credits )
(I started an animator a couple weeks ago, though it started turning into more of a 3d modeling package, lol)

GuyS made a free dialog dll a while ago. You can use it for open/save dialogs.

Download

Attached is example code.

I'm feeling nice, so heres edited code attached. Uses dialogs for opening the model, and naming the animation. Still have to do the rest.

No problem.

You might want to start on those menu images

If you want to make it like a windows menu, you can get RobK's free menu plugin.

Looks pretty good for a few days work, the second GUI is a slight improvement (like the file buttons stolen from ms word ). I'm downloading now, and I'm sure it doesn't "suck".

EDIT

Do you have powerpoint? That can make pretty good GUIs really easily (well, much more than paint). I can't really test it since there are no models on this pc.

Got em and implemented em in the bitmap already. Now I just need to fix this darn loading function and set frame function

PS: I'm in one of those rampage coding moods again, look for another utility of mine over the weekend.

. It works for simple GUIs but not for the detailed ones you find in warcraft and c+c and stuff like that.

Ha ha, New Version of the Decoy Animation Builder is here

Download it at:
[href]http://nwg.dbpcommunity.com/software/Decoy v2.exe[/href]

Source Code and All

New Features:
*New GUI and Environment to Look More like Wings3D (My Favorite Modeler)!
*Build Animation Code for Dark Basic Programs (Classic and Pro) so you no longer have to work with faulty functions to animate your models!
*No longer that stupid blank, black screen that goes straight to loading. Goes to a false environment and waits for you to hit new before starting anything.
*Windows like Input Boxes

Next version will include building code for blitz basic 3d, so if you program blitz3d, you wont be left out...

/me remembers about the rivalries between Dark Basic and Blitz3d
/me gets his flame retardent suit on
/me runs

I was bored so I made a new menu thing:

IMAGE REMOVED

I still don't now what the buttons do, but I sort of guessed...I thought the x type symbol on the far right was a close thing...so I put it as a close majigger. I now realize my error, but I don't have the time to fix it!

Also, the buttons arn't alligned that good

Also, (this is my 3rd edit) It only works "as is" in a 1024 768 res

Also, (4th edit) The question mark doesn't look that good.

BTW what is the X type symbol supposed to do?

I hope you like it

Ok, I dont think I need any more GUI changes thank you very much. The question mark was a placeholder for the Blitz Basic 3D Code Export button. Sinces its incorporated, the question mark no longer sits there. Right now, I'd appreciate it if you would all at least post some comments on it. Not just making it better than it already is.

Thanks, for 2 weeks I'd say I did go pretty far, but there are still bugs ridden all over the code. Wish more people would download and help me find them all so I can fix them all in one update then releasing many annoying ones.

If you find any bugs, report them here or at:

http://neowolfgames.proboards18.com/index.cgi?board=bugreport

Chances are, I'll check this place more than my own bug reports forum, so its recommended that you post here if its an urgent bug that needs fixing.

Hmm... This program really rocks!!

However, my inexperience with 3D animation is causing a glitch:

Sometimes the model is animated from the bottom up (For instance, if I rotate a foot the entire leg rotates with it! ) What am I doing wrong?

You model may be boned. When a boned limb is rotated, its modifies the entire mesh near the bone. Kinda like when you turn your arm, then entire thing moves with it.

-If you use BMPs I will personally run after you with a rocket launcher.

-You need to upload them to a website, you can't just use them from your computer.

-Looks good NWC, good job, downloading latest version now.

Helix, I highly recommend that you start your own post elsewhere concerning you image posting problems...

I've been playing around with your program, Omega, I really like it! However, I was discouraged when I saw that it was mostly compatable with DBPro - but that's what a cheapskate like me gets I suppose...

It will export code for Dark Basic "Classic" or Pro when you use the Dark Basic exporter. The code works in both versions, yet, Classic doesnt have live mesh deformation (well, I think it doesnt) with bones, so thats the only thing you're missing out on.

Well, did you check the software page? Theres a link to decoy on there. And on that page is a direct link to the 2.5 download. The link works, I've tried it. So, not sure whats wrong on your end, but...

[href]http://nwg.dbpcommunity.com/software/Decoy v25.exe[/href]

There is the link to it. You'll need to update it with the updater.

Well, I do have my competition. VanB and Mattman are making their own modellers as well (unless they stopped out of boredom). I wouldn't say to use Gamespace period. Quite expensive. Get milkshape or Wings3D. Much cheaper (well, Wings3D is free, milkshape is 20) and probably much easier to use.
