Hello TGC Forums,

I have been planning "Rise of the Resistance" for awhile now and I recently wrote up a game document featuring the story, modes, objectives, and requirements... but I am having trouble in choosing the correct game engine.

"Rise of the Resistance" will be an action FPS, but if I used the FPS Creator engine to create it I could not include multiplayer functionality and it may limit me in other areas as well.

So what should I use? Darkbasic PRO or is the FPS Creator engine less limiting than I think.

Okay, first of - We know too less about your game, what do you need. And second - DBPro can do everything FPS Creator does and ofcourse much more, but it also requires much more experience about it. So, before you could even start making your game, you gotta learn DBPro at high grade... Maybe not that high, but still it would take you around 5 - 8 - 12 months, depending on how fast you learn. Still, if you don't want to learn it that way, you must discard multiplayer idea and make simple Singleplayer. Look at other users games made in FPSC and compare (FPSC boards) them to DBPro ones (they're in Program Announcment's thread).

Good luck

Well, yikes... I do not want any stealing my game idea I have worked ages on. It is already bad enough that some company recently released a game with similar ideas to mine... I want to get this project on a role. I messed around with DarkBasic Pro a little. The syntax is easy to remember.

I cannot really explain my game without going into to much detail...

Remember that FPSC was actually done in DBpro, so it is definitely possible. I would honestly say coding it by hand would be better, instead of making yet another FPSC game. Be prepared to spend a lot of time and effort though, a first-person shooter involves a large amount of work.

Yep yep, go coding! I hate the zillions of FPSC stuff, no matter how hardcore it is, it is still an updated 3d Gamemaker.

What da hell, FPSC doesn't do multiplayer do i hear right?

FPS Creator is cool and all, it is just to limiting though. FPS Creator does multiplayer you can not combine single player with multiplayer into one game build.

Yeah it may take awhile but TGC and DBPro may speed development time up.

Fps Creator is just drag and drop, while dbpro is a programming language. Anyone can just make a FPS with fps creator but dbpro you have to put in a TON of time and effort. I've been using dbpro for 2 years now and still haven't completed a full fps. However the end result is FAR more satisfying if you program it. And like you said, you can program almost anything with Dbpro, but FPS creator is extremely limiting.

I thought FPSC could do multiplayer but my guess is it's going to be irrelevant as you may have elements which cannot be done in FPSC without a lot of scripting. In that case I'd go DBP anyway.

Hard to say without you sharing some of the requirements of your game.

Seriously though, unless you've come up with something revolutionary (which would be difficult for a multiplayer FPS) I doubt anyone here will steal your idea. Most of the fun of creating games is in creating your own game.

Anyway I guess I'd say if you are prepared to invest a lot of time use DBP. It's more flexible and the results can be much better.

I'll make it clear

FPSC does Multiplayer, but it's VERY limited, so, you can make MP with it but ONLY deathmatch mode ( maybe TDM too ), still the results aren't satisfaying, you can't make hiding system, only dumb run&shoot... Well, that's all .
