I've mentioned this before, and was hoping it would get fixed with a later beta, but I've had it for the last few betas now and really need to get it sorted. On top of that I've just downloaded the latest model pack and have tried using the 'achievement creator'. When getting to the end of the process where it says it'll create the achievement, it crashes and I get a runtime error... it basically seems to be effecting any dark-basic programs I'd guess? Is there a compatability fix or anything I could try? (have included my specs below)

Right to detail the problem... first of all, it's worth mentioning that this does not take place when using the 'test game' feature, only in the built game. Secondly, it only happens in levels containing water.
Basically, the second you try to pick up a weapon, the game closes and I get a 'runtime error / object doesn't exist at line...' error message. If you make your character start with a weapon the game crashes instantly as the 'New Game' has loaded, with the same error displayed. I've tried different weapons and compatibility options, but with no luck. Also I cannot remove the water from my level as it is integral.
I really want to get this sorted so that I can release the full version of my game - any help would be greatly appreciated!

I tested picking up a weapon (scifi vickers) in and out of water without any problem.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits. I'm using v118 beta 10+

Plus means I have added several new releases to my mod that will be a part of beta 11. So, it is possible it was fixed. But I can't say for sure.

Addendum:

Wait a minute you mentioned in a built game. This was not in a built game. I will build the game now and try it.

Addendum #2:

Still no crash. I had a weapon out of water and in the water. Picked up both without a crash in a built game.

This is not a bug with v118 beta 10+

Thanks F l a t l a n d e r - it's been present for me ever since water was introduced - since the release of the latest model pack and the crashing achievement program, I think it could be a problem with darkbasic programs on my system?

Would it be worth uploading my setup.ini (even though it's pretty close to default)?

The tst app center works fine for me. I went through a test of all three. Nothing crashed.

I'm not sure what the issue is for you. Put your setup.ini file within "code brackets" and I'll take a look.

Any info might help.

Have you tried:

1. uninstalling FPSC
2. backing up the rest of the FPS Creator folder and sub-folders
3. Deleting the folder and sub-folders
4. cleaning windows registry
5. re-install FPSC
6. install v1.17 (there are some things this install has that v1.18 doesn't at this time.
7. install v1.18 beta 10
8. Test only stock
9. If everything works then copy all model packs from backup.
10. Test
11. copy all purchased items from store from backup
12. test

Right it took a while, but with the help of perfect uninstaller i've reinstalled and am running the latest beta and can pick up weapons fine, but I now have a new issue which is almost as crippling

It occurs in the 'Level Settings' tab of the 'Build Game' menu. When I click edit next to 'Global Script' I can edit any options there fine, but when I click OK/Preview/Cancel the FPS Creator closes and doesn't save any of my changes. I thought this wouldn't be a big deal so I tried editing the .fpi scripts directly to change say the ambient light level. To see if these changes had saved I tried editing it again within the FPSC, only bizarrely it still showed the old value. This even goes as far as: I created a new .fpi script with the ambient light level set to '3' but when trying to edit it in FPSC is showed up as 25 - any suggestions? Cheers

Crimson, close FPS Creator, edit the FPI files directly, when you've saved and closed the FPI files right click > properties > make them read-only.

Launch FPS Creator, test level see if that works!

You can always modify individual level settings after the build so no need to worry about that!

Thanks for the tip Sting, how do you edit it once it's built?
Weirdly enough, it managed to save the changes from within FPSC once (not since though) and I'm happy with them atm so that's no longer an issue.
It just seems really tempremental since the reinstall, seems to randomly crash during the build game process with it ocassionally working (around 1/6 times) even though I haven't changed the level between builds - I patched the .exes with the 4gb patch as one of the first crashes happened when it said 'virtual memory limit reached' within the builder but it seems to randomly crash at other points now... eg it crashed at the very end whilst saving to executionable folder this time, although it all seemed to all be there which is lucky, but i'm in the process of testing so I need to get it stable, any advice would be appreaciated
Oh yeah, at the moment I haven't modified the setup.ini since the reinstall

Just keep getting that error - only have 8 enemies in the level - is there a way to increase the cap?

np, glad that solved that bit! If you read the community guides there are tutorials on seperate level setups once you've built!

With regards to the memory problem could you copy/paste your setup.ini in here for us to see?!

Figured out how to do it, but as assumed it just crashes further through the building process - anything I can do?

Thanks Sting, it's annoying you can't edit posts - it's just the default file as I've just reinstalled
Is that going to work though as to complete this level you need to kill all enemies - also the whole level interlocks (not a linear progression)

Yes as long as you build the levels correctly the game engine will interlink the whole thing together as long as you set it up correctly.

With regards to the memory issue, try lowering some of the lightmap settings (in setup.ini) such as:

lightmapatten=16
lightmapmaxsize=-1
lightmapboost=4
lightmaptexsize=256
lightmapquality=16
lightmapblurmode=1
lightmapthreadmax=-1
bloodonfloor=1
imageblockmode=1
showalluniquetextures=0

These are quite optimised settings, that may allow the build. You must alter these settings in setup.ini ONLY when FPS Creator is closed, otherwise it will overwrite the settings again. Try this and let me know if it works out!

Thanks again Sting, but the memory limit has still been reached
