The problem with .tk is all the ads. The best ad-free site I've found is [href]www.freewebs.com[/href], they give you a freewebs.com/name domain, which is pretty nice.

Using a .tk name for your site basically screams 'I can't afford a proper domain name but I really want to look like I'm serious' even more than making your message board be a Yahoo! Group. Okay, maybe not quite that much, but it's still pretty bad.

A very nice %it, indeed.

2 bad things about .tk (the ads aint *that* bad).

one: the slowness on all connections, including the fibre optic at work

two: too many people use the domain for serious companies etc. (i should know, i used them when i was 13). theyre fine for a personal site, but no one would want to do business with someone who can't afford an £8/year .com, or even £3/year .co.uk

it screams out what it is, i cant afford a .com and i use this cause i never pay money for anythign on internet, yet someways i have things that cost money on the internet, but the owner pays for me, like a game, i made a "deal" with the owner, and i got it for free! yay! i always ooze around the payments.. usually, if its in a store or by mail order, i can buy it.. not over internet...
EDIT:
Actually my uncle is paying for a .com domain for me, cause he abandoned it, and hes a doctor, that can program and has made a program that has actually made it to lots of doctors... that deliver babies at least... so i guess he got enough money to host my personal domain too. as i said, i ooze around online-paying things

Everybody thinks there are adds with tk... But you can turn it off, it's just an option on your control panel on .tk... Look on www.cuso.tk(no adds). The only thing if you turn off the ads is that you can't win cool tokelau stuff anymore... But I don't need it. I've a .com domain now too by the way

But .tk really aint that bad...

Yes, they are paid domains... The add is compulsory with the free redirection services.

Oh, and, @Shock:

This is 1) because of the add, it in itself takes a while to load, &
2) because the .tk domain uses invisible frames around your site which means that the .tk page has to load Before your actuall page loads which adds loading time to your site.

i know,

but that shouldnt increase the slowness tremeandously, i mean when .cjb.net first started it's cloaking service, it was very fast, and .jwdx.com (which i think are now dead) had a very fast cloaking service too.

i think its more to do with their servers

jeez if you live in the uk, .co.uk domain names are only £5 per year!
even .com is £10 per year.

just depends, if you baught a .com from regfly (http://www.registerfly.com), using the current exchange rate it would work out as £5.98 / year

.co.uk domains from ukreg (http://www.ukreg.com) are £2.95 / year (excluding vat)

shop around, it pays in the end
