I seem to remember that was "stereolithograph"? Often used for 3D rapid prototyping right?

Why can't you just export as 3DS from AutoCAD? DBP can use 3DS... just a suggestion.

Seems like maybe the best thing is to build the object as you go. If you're reading the "stl" as it looks in wikipedia it's pretty much a case of adding vertexdata as you go. Tricky part is using the normal vector to work out which direction to add your vertices in.

I've not done very much vertex manipulation let alone adding them in to a new object. There must be a few people here who've tried it though...
