TITLE: Battlefield Bad Company 2 (Remake)

DEVELOPER: Henry Kucab

DEMO RELEASE!

http://www.gamefront.com/files/20606426/Battlefield+Bad+Company+2+Demo.zip

Here is a demo release of Cold War (Mission 2 of the campaign.) This is a 4 level recreation of Cold War from Bad Company 2. The demo does have a readme file which has a small list of known issues, and hopefully nothing that will prevent the game from working. As mentioned, there are known issues, and I am working to solve them. If you come across any that are NOT mentioned in the readme file, please feel free to post them on the forums. The current compatibility and stability of this build is considered ALPHA and I can therefore only offer limited support and help to people who are experiencing issues.

Enjoy!

Story: Well if you're familiar with the story line of Battlefield Bad Company 2, then you pretty much know my remake's story. For those of you who don't know, Bad Company 2 (BC2) follows a squad of four misfit US soldiers on a wild adventure across the globe in a desperate attempt to prevent WWIII. You play as Preston Marlowe, the newest addition to Bad-Co. and are thrust into the front lines of exotic landscapes such as South American jungles, frost bitten tundras, and run down shanty villages in Panama. On a quest to recapture a missing weapon dating all the way back to WWII, Bad-Co. encounters fierce resistance of Soviet mercenaries under the rule of Kirilenko, the master mind behind the stolen weapon. So load up that M16, put on your helmet, and get ready, "Cause its gonna get REALLY UGLY!"

NOTES ON THIS GAME: Before anyone goes crying foul play is at hand; this is just another joke game that will die in a few months; or I'm infringing copyrights, ease off. This isn't a joke! This game has already been in development for around 6 months, with collaboration with several FPSC forum members. As for any copyright problems, there won't be any. My game, while SIMILAR, takes NOTHING straight out of BC2. All voice overs, gun sounds, level design, etc may all be similar, but by no means an exact copy, or even ripped in any way. All sounds, models, etc are either made by me, bought, or downloaded off the forum. I hope this still PRE-ALPHA screen shots might help convince some troubled souls otherwise.

YES, I PLAN TO RECREATE ALL OF BC2!

I like it. It looks like you're using Dark AI? If so how's that going for you? It's a lot more sophisticated that a lot of people think.

@F L A T L A N D E R
yea I'm using DAI. Usually 3 controllable squad mates as in bc2 plus several enemies at a time. At most there can be around 7-9 characters active at once. This sounds like alot and it is, so I'm spending a great deal optimizing my game (thanks to bugsy for tips on that) and am still far from done. DAI has been incredibly frustrating but also encredibly rewarding. They compliment my larger, outdoor level designs well. They have almost perfect navigational skills. I'm still ironing out some bugs but DAI has been a real blessing for FPSC

Screens 4,5 and 6 look really good. the shimer around the trees looks great! Any idea when you'll finish this project?

One little niggle though; Consistency. WW2 was what, 1939-1945? If the Allies had G36Cs then the whole thing would be over alot quicker!

I understand it's hard to find a lot of free WW2 style weapons but using modern ones in their place doesn't look good.

Yeah, but I thought maxiqueen did something like rigged MP9 Hands to some WW2 weaps for free?

But screens are looking good!

The very first mission in BC2 is a WWII flashback. The 1st screeny is from that (operation aurora.) So the rest are modern day but one of them is a WWII level. Don't be confused, it's not an error.

Nice project you've got going on here! Very ambitious, I would say. If you can pull of even a half decent remake,
you will show everyone what FPSC is capable of. I've worked on other engines such as UDK and quite frankly, the
user friendliness is unmatched in comparison to this and the learning curve is much easier to take on.

I'd have stayed with UDK but I've been left to a project by myself waaay too many times elsewhere. Game like this
should really spark inspiration to go outside the normal zombie shooter and tackle something amazing.

Best of luck!

I was actually thinking that when I was done with BC2 (which in no way, shape, or form is soon) I would make a small BC2 Vietnam remake WITH my own campaign based off the MP maps. Hill 137, tunnels, etc. If you guys think so, I could consider it. But base BC2 is my main concern for now. Trailer comin real soon

How many FPS do you get on average? And what are your specs, because the maps look large.

@Dark Frager

At this stage in development, I get an average of 35-40FPS with AI (BOTH allies and enemies) and usually above 50 when it's just the player and 3 allies. So pretty good for the most part. There are a few areas where it dips to the 20's, but I'm still working on optimizing these areas (omitting unseen things, replacing high poly objects with lower poly ones, clearer AI pathways, etc.)
My specs are:
AMD Phenom X4 II 955 (3.2GHz 4 cores)
4GB DDr3 1333MHz
GTX 275 896MB (2GB due to RAM) non OCed
1TB Sata II
FPSC 1.18 Beta 10, no mods

And yea, the maps are large for FPSC. And thats my point. I want to prove that that FPSC can be useful in outdoor games, hoping to drive the community to start larger scale games. Ive always admired the forest type medieval games on the forums, but most of them lack large scale battles.

However, the bloom looks a bit strong in my opinion. I'd personally recommend turning it down a bit.

Yes, I do have skype, and the bloom is adaptive. It goes from weak to strong for a dramatic effect when coming out of the dark forests, etc. But Ill consider it if more people agree. I like constructive comments.

Here are some screens from Operation Aurora, 2nd level. The squad is trying to find the scientist on the island and they come across a road with a Jap convoy. There are 2 screenshots almost identical, which is the convoy. The first screen has the convoy right before US planes fly over and blow them up (2nd screen.)

@le shorte

Gameplay is playable at this point. Optimization on most of my levels is still in the works though. No, I am not scoring a constant 50-60FPS at all time, but a decent 30-40FPS for the majority of the time is very playable. Yes, there are places where it dips, but I aim to make most of my game at least above 30FPS, even if that means restarting a level from scratch. And no, all the grass is dynamic as I don't wish to compromise the larger open world feel, since this is a Battlefield remake. No short cuts will be taken in my game! Quality over quantity.

Nope, as I use appearnocollision. The overall FPS drop is maybe 1-2 fps after a whole map covered in grass. It's all 2D so no extra polys either.

I meant nope as in it doesn't lag the game. Ive made small test games and tested it on a computer with a single core 3.46Ghz Celeron and an 8600GT and I got decent framerates (30-40avg.) Like I said, optimization is still being worked on, so do not worry.

Well, the only campaign polished enough at this point to make a demo is Cold War, but I still need to touch up the Voice Overs. So if I really concentrate on making a demo I suppose I could have one ready in a few weeks. But I feel like if I concentrate on nothing but a demo, I'll become too distracted and slow down overall progress more than I'd like. So, I'll see. If I get enough demo requests, or just decide to make one, I'll make one. I might just surprise you or myself.

I'm feeling generous. Here's a HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY WIP of part of Operation Aurora. The AI pathways are visible for reasons you ought to know. Anyway, Im asking for some feedback on this still very early level. If I get some good ideas, who knows? Maybe they'll make their way into the build. Comments welcome.

As I mentioned, those are the AI pathways. Since my game has a heavy focus on allies, I need those lines during a build to find out why certain things either stop or permit AI from clipping objects.

If you are referring to the trailer, a few sounds were used from the BC2 trailer. These sounds, however, will NOT make their way into the final game. Every sound in the final game will either be made by me, or bought (the majority already are.) Everything will be used with appropriate permission if necessary.
