A long, overdue hello to everyone!
I have maintained a fairly low profile around here for (give or take) a year. I halted all game development and FPSC usage as I got caught up with university life and exams and thought that was that. But, after logging on last week and casually browsing through the work of various developers (which I must say is of a very high standard), I started to get the development pangs again. I'm amazed at how FPSC has come since I left it 1 year ago, and am eager to get to grips with all of the new shiny new toys!.

However, after looking at the current standard and advancements of FPSC and various projects, I'm feeling like a small fish in a big pond. If I was to return to the FPSC world, I anticipated remaining in the shader development realm, and perhaps keeping my projects small (perhaps 2-3 level chapter releases which amount to a final big project. Quality over quantity gentleman. In short, Bond 1, and many other developers have achieved things I could only dream of in my absence, and from looking at my past work, part of me feels that my return to FPSC would be similar to bringing a knife to a gun fight. I just can't compete with the developers of now.

Sure, I may of been considered "good" in 2008/2009 etc, but the standard is now so high (to which users who joined in 2010/2011 are producing stuff which puts me in my place). I want to return, and become active in contributing shaders etc to the community again, but it seems like such a daunting task after being away for a long while.

Yours

CoZ

Welcome back, I was wondering where you went.

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

@ COZ...I am a newbie on here and I read Nickydude's Community Guide to FPS Creator...thank you for a great article on lighting! I appreciate it...

Actually, I appreciate everyone's input on that wonderful community guide!

I suggest all newbies read this guide, the official manual that came with the program, and learn how to script like I'm doing to make your games unique and interesting.

Just my 1 cent (because I don't have 2 cents...lol...

As if you didn't have a good enough one already. That is really overkill for FPSC. LOL. I reverted back to two
9800 GTs in SLI and even that is overkill for FPSC. Well, to each his own though. If you can afford it, go on right ahead!

Nice to have you back, and i still use your FSS shaders, and Entity shaders, so, dont worry, you will also get better, its not like you're frozen in quality and stuff
You will and You ARE GOING TO (if you keep doing shaders and stuff) Get better, and better and better. so, pretty much you dont have nothing to worry about...

Last words: Welcome Back!.

Hmmm... Josh, what email are you using now? I know that I have been a bit childish (and stupid to put in bluntly in the past)
but you and I are both adults, so I think we will be able to talk as adults. I know what you can you as we've worked in the past.

I'm hoping you can set aside any differences we might have had and would you hit me up on my email: [email protected]?
I think we can make your return quite a good one with some things I have to share with you.

Well, I'm updating to a 6950, as I hate being out of date in my computer hardware by more than 1-2 generations

Quote: "Did Demon Sun ever get released? Man I was looking forward to it"

Unfortunately not. The reason for this being the game lacked consistency in it's quality, as I started to make Demon Sun at the start of my FPSC career, and as I got better, my levels improved. Problem was, I never updated my earlier levels to bring them in line with the later ones. I have often thought about remaking Demon Sun in the form of chapters; make 1 chapter 2 levels, and then link the chapters together. This keeps my workload small, and also keeps the motivation high, as I don't have the thought of a huge project in front of me. This is something that I have scheduled to do over the summer. So, Demon Sun will be making a return this year

Emailing you now

Thanks for the kind words Wolf & Dark James

Sure? In 2008/2009 I considered you a "God"! Your work was the basis for many of the shader developments we've had. You are the grandfather of FPSC shader development, and it would be awesome if you made a comeback!
