I hope I covered everything. I had written this out before using Notepad.txt.
The download link contains the zip file called "
RPG Mod Install Folder."
After you download the zip file Do Not do anything until you read the following. If you do not follow these instructions then you run the risk of FPSC crashing almost immediately.
1. Unzip the file to your desktop. There you will see a folder with the same name as the zip file.
2. Open your windows explorer and navigate to your "
FPS Creator" folder.
3. Rename your current fpsc-game.exe file.
4. Open the "RPG Mod Install Files" folder that is located on your desktop.
5. Copy the
fpsc-game.exe file from the above folder to your "FPS Creator" folder. You will notice a PDF file. Copy this anywhere you would like. Desktop might be a good place for now.
6. Now, navigate to and open up your "Files" folder (
FPS Creator\Files.
7. Copy the two folders (
RPG_Mod and
rpgfiles) from the "RPG Mod Install Files" folder to your "FPS Creator\Files" folder.
Once you have followed the above steps you must now do the following steps as it is very important.
1. Navigate to and open the Files\RPG_Mod folder. You will see an exe file there that is called "Encrpt_Setup_Files.exe".
2. Run this exe file. You will see this prompt, "Enter RPG Mod Folder Name. Press <ESC> to end program:"
3. Enter the following: sample_game_folder. If you see this response, "rpg_setup.fpi file does not exist. Will close." then you entered an incorrect game folder name.
4. Now you're ready to run FPSC without it crashing for you.
If it does crash then go back to step #1 and try it again. It does not crash for me. Make sure to answer "yes" when it asks if you want to overwrite the files and folders.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
You will notice within the RPG_Mod folder five sub-folders: Audio, Huds, Images, Info_Docs, and Setup. You will also notice a file called "rpg.ini" Open this file. It is a text file so you can have notepad.exe open it for you. You should see these two lines:
[working game folder name]
sample_game_folder
Notice "sample_game_folder" This is the current game folder you are using. I have provided this way of keeping track of multiple games that you might be working with. Now, look inside each of the RPG_Mod sub-folders. You will notice that there is a sub-folder by the name of "sample_game_folder" except for the Images folder. This folder has images that are used in RPG Mod. You can place other images there if you plan on using them in
all of your games. It can be considered a general folder for all games.
In the "Setup\sample_game_folder" you will notice that there are already threes files included. Whereas the other sub-folders are empty. The setup files are used so that number one, FPSC doesn't crash for you and number two, they can be used by you as examples along with the documentation. I did this so you can get a fairly good start.
These setup files are the actual files I am currently using for my game. The huds or sound files are not available, however. Everything else is just setup data.
If you want to make changes to the setup files I would suggest stongly that you make backups of them. You can then use these files to experiment with the mod. If it crashes because you made a mistake you can start over by using the include setup files. As you can see, however, the exe file will run any of your levels without needing any setup files. Although, they must be present in order for FPSC to compile correctly. Eventually I will include the bare minium you would need without all of the data that is available in the included files.
The reason for the unique folders such as "sample_game_folder" is so that you can be working on more than one game and be able to have different data available for each game. However, in order to work on a particular game you will need to change the name of the game folder within the setup.ini file. One of the problems I have is forgetting to do that.
Another thing I sometimes forget to do is to run the encryption exe file on the setup files after I make changes or additions. If a change or addition doesn't show up it's probably because you, too, forgot.
Regarding the encrypted files. I will not be allowing an option for this. They will always have to be encrypted. That is how I want it and therefore that's how it will be.
One last thing, if you are using FPI EditPad be sure and
turn off "Auto Syntax Check" in the "Option" drop down menu. If you want your syntax to then be highlight, you can click on the option "Highlight Keywords." This does not check for syntax except to see if there are two colons present.
