Recently in the FPSC forums we had a wonderful idea.
This was our idea.
Quote: "Sorry, I think i'm putting this in the wrong place, or maybe it shouldn't exist at all! but...
Shouldn't FPSC, or even the entire of TGC have a wiki?
It would be so useful, as sometimes i've been trying to find what a simple command is, and I come across several threads that end in "use the search box".
If there was a wiki then the main features could possibly be better understood as well as add-ons.
It seems disappointing how there are so many Wiki's for 'pointless' things, such as pokemon, but few which are actually helpful.

I just think this would solve some of the issues which seem to come up time and again on the forums.
Anyone else agree? Or am I on my own...? "

This was posted by a member of the FPSC community.
So my idea was that why doesn't DBPro Create one too?

Nate

TGC Wiki

Although I would like to see a better implementation. Something broken down more into categories for TGC products, and less random garbage. "Does your pit bull need pet insurance?" I mean, does this really need to be on the TGC Wiki? I see pages for DBPro and Matrix1Utils commands, but you have to search for them.

I guess that's the problem with wikis in general. You end up with all kinds of stuff nobody cares about, cluttering up the stuff you're actually looking for.

So basically you would kick into the poor thing once more?

Sorry, i'm very pessimistic nowadays seeing what is the TGC policy around their money-makers.

They have a nice program called Dark Basic Professional, which cannot be called Professional by far but it has the potential for it. But in this form it is not a great, awesome, hilariously cool tool as they promote.

The poor thing has got a half done help file which suffers from being always outdated as upgrades to the program go by.

They try to fix this all by god expensive add-ons, half not working correctly.

And you suggest that we should have an other halfaaaaa-ass help file online, instead of getting the stuff we have right now done correctly.

I'm sorry, this is the just reaction i suddenly had looking at this thread. I must say there was a little in it about that i don't like Wikipedia, and a little previous frustration about all the other people here seems to love the damn Facebook, and "how awesome it would be to have more access to it via TGC tools...", and how i see the two things kinda similar..

so, yup..

-In.Dev.X: A unique heavy story based shoot'em ~6%
-CoreFleet: An underground commander unit based RTS ~15%
-TailsVSEggman: An Sonic themed RTS under development for idea presentation to Sega ~15%

Unless TGC is getting into the business of selling Viagra, I think it's safe to say that the TGC wiki has been defaced

It's part of the TGC website. I didn't create or contribute to it. Found it not all that useful and dismissed it a long time ago.

I find myself agreeing with some of Quel's points though...

I, too, agree (mostly) with Quel. I have been tinkering around with the help files(as they are HTML coded), to see what's going on there, because of the broken syntax descriptions and such.

As far as a Wiki page, though, I guess a user maintained site would be cool. I could see that becoming pretty helpful, if people like Van B, IanM, and GreenGandalf(among others) pitched in. I'm not volunteering you guys, just saying people with your talents could make it great. I, for one, would contribute to it.

If life were like a box of chocolates, I'd know what I would get... The one that got dropped on the floor and put back in the box.

The HTML for the help files is easy enough to work with, it's more the current graphical representation lacks relevant and related detail and reference.

Wikis are all well and good but often contain too much advertising and are useless offline, the integration of the current help file system is perfect as long as keywords are maintained.

The help system also lacks any usage information on the IDE.
I had to come onto the forum and stumble across a reference to including files using the "Solution Explorer" to even know I could do that, a more apt name would have been the "Include Dialog".
If the code file is checked every now and again (generally to see if the file has been externally changed at which point a messagebox will pop up and ask if you want to reload the file) why not do a more useful scan and check the file and get all the #Include directive lines and list them in a "Solution Explorer" style window instead of having two diffent and conflicting ways to include files.

And don't get me started on the #Include directive itself...
(Hopefully I'll post something soon detailing the directives.)

Has anyone seen where I left my other signature?
I've already checked under the sofa.
Maybe the dog ate it...
