Hey there forum-goers. Although this is my first (I think) post on these forums, I've been using FPSC for a while. And while it is a great program and I'll always love it, for a while now I've been trying to move to Unity 3D, another game creation software (really a game engine). However, I would really like to bring the models from the model packs or other sources along with me. These, as you well know, are .X files. However, Unity 3D does not support .X files. Here is my question, and I would be eternally grateful to whoever answers (): How can I convert my .X files to .3DS, WHILE RETAINING ANIMATIONS. Unity also accepts .FBX, .MAX, blender files, and a couple others. So I'd be happy to convert the .X files to most anything, as long as they retain their animations. I've been able to get the models into Unity, but without their animations. Can anyone help me? I'd be willing to pay as long as it worked perfectly and wasn't overly expensive. Thanks in advance!

You should be able to use Fragmotion for this. Just google it. It may not say it is free, but trust me when I say it is

Fragmotion is one of the very few programs that can import .x animations but does not export to fbx or .max.

you might start with fragmotion and see if you can export to blender.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the quick replies. I have tried fragmotion before and unfortunately it didn't seem to render with animations. I was able to convert file formats, which was nice, but no animations were transferred. It's possible I did it wrong, but I don't know. Deep Exploration is a program that was able to convert static models, such as rocks, from .X into .3DS, which was great, but was seemingly unable to load the animated files, like characters or monsters. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance!

If you want to retain the animations to go into unity you have to do it one of two ways. Ask the original creator to do the export to fbx or use fragmotion to export bvh and re-rig the animation in blender. It works everytime for me. Just be sure that you keep your blend file before and after, so you have something to go back to if there are problems.

Basically you need to use the bvh tutorial to make it function as in fpsc, but you can also single out the animations. Here is the tutorial. As for my work in blender and unity here you go:
