May 2011 3D Compo: "Make it Glow!"

This time around we're gonna see if you can come up with something that 'Glows' and we're going to allow post-editing of your renders. The idea is to see what nifty Glowing effects you can use to bring your model to life. You can use special specular maps, UV maps, Textures, anything goes.

Have fun!

Compo will Run through to May 25th

Cheers!

***********************************
*** Deadline extended to Friday May 27th ***
***********************************

P.S. please try to keep your renders to 640x480 or 800x600 on the high side. Thanks.

Here is my entry. Sort of rushed it so no smoothing on the lightsabers themselves. Meh the whole effect is created in 3dsMax so no photoshop (Brownie points?) Thanks.

This is a hard competition to think of an idea for.

Something that glows...

Well heres my entry... Sorry about the size, but photobucket was not playing right and could not get the smaller one to show... odd that!

If it starts working again I will replace this pic with a smaller one.

The pic is of a Guardian barring the way to an old water entrenched obelisk.

Made from metal its plasma insides radiate a suitable menacing glow.

Designed and rendered using Bryce/Sculpt/blender.
16 mins to render...30000(ish) polys.

I was about to say hey Iceman that looks like a Bryce render... then I read it really was. Didn't know people still used Bryce.

Any chance of extending this one more day. My town's been hit with so many storms this week my power has been out for 50+ hours in the past 4 days...

I'll try and get this in tonight, but that's if I pull an all nighter.

Thanks David!

Though after 3 monsters and some spam I was able to finish the first version. Not totally happy with it, so I might go back and tweak this a bit before the deadline.

My entry unless I specify otherwise:

Low Rez Version:

High Rez Version

I know this is over, but I was working on a second entry and no sense in letting it not be shown even if I did not finish it. My plan was to show him breaking through a brick wall with his eyes glowing red. This was one of my favorite scenes in the comics where he came to stop a prison riot and a prisoner thought he could take Superman without him having superpowers and Superman said he would only use one finger to stop him to give him a fighting chance.

Anyway it's not the best, but enjoy.
