Well I think I understand what you are getting at here. Biggest thing you would want to lookout for is the copyright issues. Licensing etc. Not just with the media you are using but the software, make sure you have a commercial FPSC license (these days its just the build game addon or the CD product yes?)

Make sure you have a quality product that people ARE going to be interested in is all ways good.

But your biggest thing is really licensing. Make sure you are using your own, or royalty free media. Avoiding legal problems is your main priority when moving into the commercial industry.

I'm sure someone with more commercial experience than I will get back to you

Happy game developing!

Regards,

Max

The best thing to do would be to contact the media owners, and ask them for permission to use it in a commercial product. Remember, they could always say no or ask for something in return.

And also, all model packs (I am aware of) and stock FPSC media are royalty free. Feel inclined to use them in your game if you so wish.

Yes, true, but while making your game it is an even better idea to make sure there is a clear license for the media before you even decide to use it. Otherwise, you could end up having to replace your media after the game is already made. Big headache for any product.

Most of the free media you get from here only require a mention in the game credits, but as Rampage said, always double check.

Many publisher's will also want to know what kind of a fan base you have already established, if you have a website dedicated to the game, what kind of potential your game has for other product marketing, what updates and future plans do you have for your game.

I am sure there are many more things to consider, but these are some of the basics that would apply to looking for distribuion of any product.

It would be a good idea, and a llengthy one at that, to list every entity and its associated license in an excel file. i.e. 1st column is "WWII crate", 2nd column is "FPCS STock Media-royatly free". It will take what seems like forever but will really impress future prospects and let them know you are serious. I am doind that with the game I'm working on as I go. I also have a third column that links to the correct notepad file so anyone can read each and every license for themselves. I learned from the music industry that paperwork is sometimes more important to some people than the finished product.
